Commercial Description:
Latest in our Brewer’s Choice range of beers, the Fruit Lambic is a celebration of local ingredients and our snow-fed water. It has the strong fresh aroma of local raspberries from the Bright Berry Farm. The vivid rose colour highlights the creamy pink head supported by effervescent bubbles. The elegant and refreshing flavour is smoothened by the rounded body of wheat ale, using wheat from nearby Porepunkah. This is complemented bysubtle raspberry fruit flavour, balanced by a slightly tart finish that is reminiscent of the fresh fruit. Moderate use of local Pride of Ringwood hops keeps the bitterness very low: rather the bite of the fresh fruit balances the body and creamy texture of the beer.

Tap at The Local - thx Shandy! I seem to have had an inordinate number of raspberry beers lately for some reason, and the common feature of all of them is that the berries impart that really great fresh but slightly jammy aroma, with the seeds quite evident. It’s just that they ALL have that same aroma. When you’re Rosé de Gambrinus you have extra lambic stuff or when you’re voota’s raspberry imperial stout you’ve got something else for it to work with. Thus is the failing of this beer. It’s just raspberry aroma. Like a watered down version of Redoak Framboise Froment, and that’s not exactly super-exciting to start with. So yeah, it’s got a really nice raspberry aroma, looks good and pink, and tastes of really very little. Not actively bad, just seriously watery and boring. The raspberries need a much gutsier base. No idea what makes this a ’lambic’ either - the acidity seems fruit-derived to me, though I could be wrong. The website sheds no light on it either. Seriously expensive too, which I guess means they’re using fresh raspberries at least. Disappointing.
