A complex beer using pale, black, crystal, and chocolate barley malts. The hops used are English in variety and moderately added. A well balanced dark beer for all seasons.

Pours dark brown, almost black - with a bit of beige foam. Aroma is really full of roast, dark bitter chocolate also there, but still quite soft overall. Tastes nicely dry and full of roast, cocoa power and dark chocolate. Brimmer has done a good job with this relatively low abv beer and added all the flavours you want to have from a sessionable porter. Believe me, I have sessioned with this in the past when they still had Brimmer Beer Box.

Dark brown, thick head, has a chocolatey, slightly fruity aroma. Balanced, maybe a touch light, and a hint of fruitiness and chocolate. Ok porter.

Tap at copper’s ale in Tokyo. Dark pour with s nice mocha head. Nuts, spice, herb, cocoa, chocolate. Thin and lighter than expected body. Nice but a bit more flavor towards the finish would be nicer

Nocturne (1833) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 19, 2015
Tap at Brimmer Beer Box, Tokyo. Brown with ruby hints. Short head and lacing. Rich cocoa, coffee and nutty notes. The taste is quite dry. For the style I think this is almost spot-on, although personally I’d appreciate a little more sweetness.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2016 On tap at Watering Hole or CBM. Can’t remember where. Deep copper brown color with a light tan head. Caramel, malt, toasted cacao nibs and toffee on the nose. Tastes similar with more emphasis on the cacao nibs. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Slightly bitter finish. Middle of line porter.

Draught at Brimmer Beer Box in Tokyo.
Pour is a brown mahogany with a creamy white head. Smells of nuts and caramel. Taste is milk chocolate, nuts and caramel. Fairly basic but still manages to be enjoyable.

Bottle from Sugaya. Chocolatey nose, with deep dark roast, light coffee, and some berries. Dark translucent brown, filmy head, some lace. Medium dark chocolate initial, gets very nutty (macadamia, walnut) in mid palate, and mild bittering in finish. Light-medium body. Very smooth and soft.

Tap at Popeye, Tokyo. Dark brown color, small off-white head. Light toasted aroma. Light-bodied. Catamel, toasted even a bit smokey flavor. Soft palate. Easygoing.
