Bottle. Pours clear amber with thick, frothy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, caramel malt, pears, grassy hops, and a slighty soapy note. Flavor is heavy malt, light hops, and average esters; dry, malty finish. Medium body, low carbonation, and high warmth.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 talon1117 (1065) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 23, 2011
The pour is a translucent, deep chestnut-amber color with a full, canvas-colored, creamy, rocky head which settles to a very thin, rocky layer which leaves scattered Belgian lace. The nose is bland and lacks yeast presence; dark candi sugar, toasted caramel, sweet almonds, an earthy presence, and some dates. The flavor is still lacking in richness and yeast complexity; still candi sugar and toasted caramel, an orangey note emerging, toasted almonds, an earthy bitterness, a faint roast, and cereal note. The palate is very lively, medium, creamy, and velvety. The beer finishes with some clove (finally), orange and faint roast lingering, and candi sugar still in the forefront. Weird beer, not bad but certainly not a good dubbel. The malt presence reminded me of a bock or Scottish beer but just lacked the yeast presence to be a nice Belgian. The palate had plenty of carbonation for a bottle conditioned beer, more like forced carbonation. Not bad but not a good one.

750ml bottle 9/17/11 (Davidson’s Liquor)-56° in Snifter-Pours a dark ruby red with a big off white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, sour, roasted malt, and caramel. Taste of yeast, malt, and sour. This medium bodied brew is not what I was expecting. A little sour for a Dubbel but still tasty.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 10, 2011
Turbid reddish pour - pretty fizzy, but doesn’t kick up too much of a head - aroma has some odd meaty/smoky phenols, yeasty/doughy character, very mild esters - flavor is slightly nutty, with quite a bit of the same smoke/meatiness from the nose - light acidity - nothing all that dubbelish about it, but I guess it isn’t terrible.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 adnielsen (3755) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 9, 2011
Bottle courtesy of Brandon. Thanks! Dark red orange appearance with an off white head. Toasty, caramel-toffee, a touch roasty-burnt, slightly belgian aroma. Slightly burnt-toasty, toffee, mild caramel malty, slightly belgian flavor. I’m pretty disappointed.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 arminjewell (3107) - Parker, Colorado, USA - SEP 9, 2011
Pours hazy reddish with lacing white head, bottle thanks to Brandon. Aroma has notes of some slight caramel, spice, some sour grain, touch of biscuit. Taste is an interesting combination of spice, nuts, some slight caramel, toffee, some slight earth notes, finishing bitter and slightly dry. Not bad.

Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), with notes of gum, alcohol, and lemon juice.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Not much going on in the aroma, but it’s ok. Kinda sour and overly sweet in the mouth. Overall average.

750ml bottle, courtesy of and shared with BeerandBlues2. Color is a hazy amber with very good carbonation and a thick rocky head. Aroma is a sweet caramel scent. It has a bold medium body that gives a crisp mouth feel. Flavor of malt, caramel and dried fruits, then a mild bitterness. Overall its a very good brew.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 drjay44 (1732) - Salida, Colorado, USA - AUG 11, 2011
750 ml. bottle. Pours a fluffy ivory head, long duration, attractive lacing, over a very slightly hazy, amber (SRM 8) body.....nose is light caramel/toffee, bits of fig, raisin, plum, brown sugar.....taste is light dried fruits, raisin, fig, toffee/caramel, finishing dry, slightly bitter, but with lingering malt tones....mouth feel medium (a bit light), carbonation low. This is a fairly typical Dubbel. It is less complex than many, but has all the right qualia, BJCP 7/3/13/4/7
