Bottle, thanks to my BBF homer, jackl. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, faint roasted malt, toast, liquorice, treacle, dark fruit and faint hint of jam. The taste is roasted malt, spice, earth, toast, coffee, varnish, ash and some dark fruit with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy drinking. Decent.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. 5% version, baby. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The nose is brown bread, red fruit, light cocoa, smoked tea. The taste is lactose, cream, chocolate, some nut. Roasted ashy finish. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, solid.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Massive thanks to Jack for tracking down the ever-elusive 5% version. How does he doe it? Pours clear brown with a frothy beige head. Chalky, dry and dusty cocoa in the nose. Light sweet flavor, some sweet cocoa, toasty bread, light dirt. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Dirty earth to finish, dry cocoa, toast. Very nice stout. Good balance, reasonable depth.

Clear dark black brown colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, chocolate, roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130120]

Pours a black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, some licorice and tar. Flavour of rich roasted malts, licorice, tar, grassy hops, mild sweetness and hay. Medium bodied, dry mouthfeel and a dry, malty and high bitter finish. Very well balanced and enjoyable. Pretty close to a dry stout.

Pours black color with a nice two-layered thick head. Aroma of milky chocolate, toasted dark malts, some cocoa powder, caramel, hints of dark fruits and some ash. Some dry dark chocolate on the flavor, dark fruit notes, mild caramel and toasted malts. Smooth, creamy and chocolaty sweet palate with a dry and somewhat bitter finish. Nice.

Bottle. Very dark brown, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty - some oat and sweetish aroma, some roasted malt - faint burnt malt with light chocolate and faint hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - some oat and lightly sweetish flavor, some roasted malt and light chocolate. Finish is average, malty - some oat and lightly sweetish, some roasted malt and light chocolate - faint coffee, light hoppyness. OK lightly sweetish stout with roasted malt - could use more body.

Classic English stout. Looks the part. Super tich roasty aroma. Smooth palate, pleasant carbonation. Great roasty taste. No ashiness. Mellow, and damn tasty. This is stout.

Pours a light shade of black, almost extremely dark mahogony brown, with a patchy tan head.
Nose is dark roast malts, toffee, light coffee, dark fruits, touch of liqourice.
Initially too cold as straight from the outhouse so returning later to continue the rate.
Far better flavours after 45/50 minutes warming.
Taste comprises roast malt, dark plummy fruit, mineral tones, molasses, touch of liqourice, hint of chocolate.
Medium bodied, moderate caronation - perhaps a touch OTT here, dry finish.
Ok stout.
