3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 dantheman278 (975) - SCOTLAND - JAN 17, 2012
Bottle at home. Black pour, slight reddish tinge. Medium bubbly beige head, fades with little lacing. Nose is nice, big ovaltine, chocolate, some oatmeal, roast malts. Slightly thin palate, dry roast malts, hint of chocolate, more oatmeal. Slightly thin - would benefit from a fuller body on cask perhaps. Medium bitter ashy finish.

Bottle. Deep brown black, fast-fading tan head. Lovely chocolate nose with a touch of vanilla and cream. Bit watery on the front, but finishes with nice dark mocha flavours. Carbonation a bit too strong for the texture, but very nice flavours nonetheless.

[500ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk, as part of ’12 stouts of Christmas’] Black pour, decent white head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Slightly bitter toasty chocolate finish. Thin and sessionable. Finish is dry. A good stout, it would be very nice on cask, I’d think [20122011]
