COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BRISTOL VINTAGE 2011, is a beer we have created to celebrate the 1000th brew in our brewery. It only seemed right to celebrate this milestone with an extra special beer.

Tasting notes;
A very dark beer with a slight red hue to it, there is a sweet aroma of raspberries. It is a rich, full-bodied beer, with berry fruits to the fore and with chocolate and toasted notes. The finish lingers with a nice hint of oak and moreish hop bitterness. Bristol Vintage is delicious fresh, with the hop characters really prevalent, however it will age really well, developing flavour and complexity as the hop flavours diminish and the strong malt backbone of the beer takes over. Try it fresh, but also put a bottle away for months or years into the future. A unique, one and done beer, but hopefully the first of an annual release of a Bristol Vintage. An extra special brew day was required to produce the amount of beer we wanted to get, Simon starting the brew day off at 1am, and Chris finishing the day at gone 9pm. 3 mashes were required to produce the 6000 pints we wanted. Hops were selected from England, Germany, New Zealand and the US that all bring something different to the beer, and lead to a distinctive hop presence that compliments the malts and balances the beer. MD, Simon Bartlett, along with brewers Chris Kay and Brett Ellis have carefully selected 5 malts and 4 of our favourite hop varieties to make a full flavoured strong dark ale. After fermentation the beer was aged on some fresh English Oak to add another layer of complexity to it.

50 cl bottle vintage 2012 @ home, BBE 15.11.2014
Aroma is quite light with some caramel, toffee and hay. Flavour has English hops, toffee and some biscuits. Also hints of vanilla and wood. Finishes with grainy notes and some gooseberry bush. Too English for me but decent anyway.

50 cl bottle, vintage 2012. BBE 15.11.2014.
Pours hazy copper color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is quite faint with some nuts, malts and dried fruits. Flavor of malts, dried ripe fruits, some nutty notes, wood, hints of toffee and mild hay. Quite straightforward and flawless. Has a mouth-drying effect. Decent.

2012 bottle. Sour tart fruit aroma, leading to a rich red full bodied beer. Good tang with cherry notes and red fruit; some yeasty characteristics, warming late on with a dry finish and faint metallic notes.

Bottle at home. 2012 vintage. Dark chestnut brown, thick foamy off-white head quickly dissipates to a small cap with little lacing. Warm malty nose, some caramel, nuts, some light chocolate roast, touch of red fruit, tiniest bit of woodiness too. Medium sweetness, oily malts, some varnish notes, fairly strong bitterness on the finish and a touch of alcohol burn. Soft foamy carbonation. Pretty good complex sipper.

From a 500ml bottle, deep ruby red pour, malty aroma with a little chocolate, toasted caramel, oakiness well balanced with an aggressive bitter hop profile. Carbonation is low, could pack a bit more punch but this is an original flavour for a UK beer. Decent.

2012 Vintage bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Pours a treacly amber with a tan head. Some molassesy fruit on the nose with a hint of spice. The hops come through strongly in the tasting with a steady bitter finish. Chewy lingering bitterness encourages the next sip. Very nice - will look for another to age.

500ml bottle (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Fest2013)
Pleasant old nutty roasty aroma, but not so big. Dry nutty palate. English estery almondy componts come out in the aroma and retronasals later. Soft palate, nice carbonation. High drinkability for the strength, but the very dry attenuation makes it drying.
