Cask@Melton Mowbray Beer Festival 2007. Black beer with a reddish tinge. The aroma is roasted and the flavour is roasted and quite bitter. Overall a nice dry, bitter and roasted beer.

DruncanVeasey (5145) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 19, 2012
Bottle conditioned, 500ml. Chestnut with a fine beige top. Aroma mouldering red apples off the lawn cooking in a hot black sack; coal smoke, cooked rhubarb, clove spiciness, cinder toffee. Good simple taste with a spiced rhubarb and apple strudel character; clove hints, toffee, hazelnut. Some coal dust and milk chocolate digestives, peppermint. But the overall feel is nothing that complicated. Fine bitter, difficult not to drink very quickly.

Stephanos (863) - NORTHERN IRELAND - APR 5, 2012
Bottle@home from Ales By Mail, Thanks Paul! Pours deep garnet red with pale tan head that soon dissipates. Rich fruit shortcake nose with sticky treacle undertones. Quite highly carbonated, the palate is predominantly malt based with a touch of blackcurrant and robust English hop bitter-finish. Some of that shortcake makes it through and perhaps a touch of astringent chicory there too.

[500ml bottle, Nina’s, Edinburgh] Deep reddish ruby brown, with a thin, off-white head. Toffee and molasses on the nose. Same on the flavour – rich, sticky molasses with rising sweetness. Chocolate on the finish, which is soft and welcoming. A soother [03042012]

Quoth Anna: Well balanced, a touch of choc in the taste. Lovely copper, loose head. A bit of an old ale style. Not too sweet, and fills out in the mouth nicely.
