3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7065) - London, - MAR 29, 2011
On cask (handpump) at the Cask Pub & Kitchen on 7 March 2011. Very dark ruby colour. Quite restrained aroma but the nuts come through in spades on the palate. Rich and a little sweet but the mouthfeel, although creamy, retains a pleasant, quite firm grip. Went down very nicely. I did wonder whether this was one of those beers that comes over quite well in a smaller quantity but lacks drinkability. However, a second went down rather well so I guess I was wrong there.

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 2, 2012
Bottle during Leighton’s birthday celebrations. It pours very dark brown, with a thick light tan head. The nose is caramel, toffee, coffee, roasted malt and hazelnut syrup. The taste is disappointingly dominated by tangy sourness..... other than that there is a touch of roasted malt/coffee/nut but you have to really search for it. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A big disappointment as I really like a lot of the stouts these guys do.

Clear dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, coffee, dusty coffee, earthy - hazelnut. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111203]
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 21, 2011
Bottle at home shared with my dad 20.12.11 ordered direct from Bristol Beer Factory. Pours black with a light beige head. There is a very slight sourness on the nose and also in the mouth, I was a little worried about this at first though I have to confess its didn’t particularly affect this beer, just unsure if this was intentional. The coffee flavours flood through and there is a definite nutty edge along with some fruitiness. The coffee again showing, its nice but a slight dip in form compared to the previous two beers. [500ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk, as part of ’12 stouts of Christmas’] Black pour, miserly thin lacing – the beer goes flat pretty quickly. Aroma of cold coffee. Sour, flat coffee on the taste – don’t get much hazelnut, not even really on the finish. Disappointing – I was really looking forward to this one, being a fan of nutty flavours – but I found it far too one-dimensional [20122011]

Bottle at home, part of the 12 Stouts of Christmas box. Deep dark brown pour, thin tan head. Massive roasty coffee nose, hint of nuttiness. Sweet, strange red fruit, hazelnut syrup, hint of roast on the palate. Short sweet finish. Weird, flavours don’t totally mesh. The only dud one so far in this box!
