Bottle 330ml.

Clear dark black colour with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige to light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, whisky, peat, wood, smoked. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, peat, dark malt, roasted, chocolate, whisky notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20130127]

Bottle @ The Stouts Tasting Pt II. Everyone was super excited to get to this one. The pour’s deep brown with a medium tan head. Teh aroma is oatmeal raisin cookie. A bit of light peat. Toasted chocolate swirl bread. Some honey and hints of herb. The taste is more peat smoke. Some charred grain. Light accents of vanilla and chocolate. Some earthy compost on the finish. Full body. Decently balanced. Clear flavors. Overall, pretty good stuff. Exceeded expectations.

Bottle at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to jack who is spoiling us with BBF stouts..... It pours near black with a small light tan head. The nose is vanilla, roasted malt, earth, hot milk and earth. The taste is toast, roasted malt, cocoa powder, earth, varnish, honey, whisky, brown sugar and pleasant bitterness. Full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Well-integrated and flavoursome. One of the best BBF stouts out there.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2013 Bottle at Bruce’s, London during The Stouts Tasting, Pt. II - massive thanks to Jack for sharing another winner from his Bristol stouts cache! Pours thick black-brown with a staunch, khaki cream head. Tons of peat in the nose, brown sugar, sweet bread. Hugely sweet flavor, loads more peat, brown sugar, light roast, dark sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, sticky dark sugars, lots more peat, toasted brown sugar, mellow roast, light roast. Quite a bit of peat here, but I like it.

Bottle at home 3rd march 2013. Pours an elegant black. Aroma is smoke and ash, taste is smoke and woody oak, a little dominated, could do with more leather and liquorice. The alcohol is well covered

Bottle as part of the 12 stouts of Christmas. Initial volatile aromas are more smoky than expected. These smoky aromas fade to a more smooth whiskey roast character. Black with a big old tan head. Fantastic looking beer. Flavour is dominated by the whiskey and roast. a little out of balance.

Hmmmm i was expecting they Speyside whisky character with this beer so was quite surprised to get a smokey, Oaky hit in the aroma. There was also Terrys chocolate orange in there too. The taste was more oak and smoke. The most notable flavour to this beer was tobacco! Not unpleasant and maybe if id been prepared for it, less of an issue, but definitely what i was expecting. Not a bad beer in terms of its quality, just not to my taste or expectation.

330ml bottle. Pours jet black with a thin head. Aroma is heavy, peaty smoke, with a little chocolate trying to poke through. Taste has iodine to start. Weird, smoked brocolli finish. Short in the mouth.

Bottle as part of the 12 stouts of Christmas. Near black with a slight tan head. Sweetish aroma of caramel, whisky, heather and wood. Flavour had chocolate, a lot more whisky, vanilla oak and a roast, warning finish. My last beer of 2012 and a very enjoyable way to end the year.

Bottle from Brewer 12 Stouts 2012 010113
Black, tan head that dissipates to thin rim around glass, light lacing
Aroma - Some smoke and peat from the whisky, wood, some alcohol, dark malts, fair amount whisky of in here
Taste - Whisky which is quite smoky with some peat, fairly phenolic, the base impy stout is in the background with smooth dark malts, some chocolate in there fair amount of alcohol, complex, the barrel aging has put considerable of whisky in it, making it fairly unbalanced and a bit disjointed. It seems to give the impression that the a small amount of whisky was just added to the base beer.
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, fairly sweet palate with some alcohol form the whisky. Finish as main flavour, with a warming tail
Overall - Too much whisky - I would have preferred it more subtle. I’m not really a fan of whisky anyway. I’m sure the whisky drinkers would like this. This was a disappointment.
