COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; Special.
Imperial Stouts were originally brewed in the early 19th century for export from Britain to the imperial court of Russia’s Catherine the Great.
The high alcoholic content prevented the beer from freezing in transport in the Baltic Sea. Our Imperial Stout has a rich, malty sweetness, notes of dried fruits & a robust full body. This brew will improve and develop complexity over time and has an intense flavour which is complex and distinctive.

Bottle at Scopey’s CBC Tune-Up. Thick deep brown pour with no head. The nose is hershey’s chocolate syrup, deep toasted buttered brown bread and cream. The taste is funky bitter chocolate, blackberry zest and light brown sugar. Some raspberry syrup. The body’s thick and smooth. Pleasant to drink. Nice, simple imperial stout.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at my Pre-CBC Tune-Up Tasting. It pours very dark brown, with a bubbly tan head. The nose is varnish, charcoal, chocolate, caramel, toffee and toasted coconut. The taste is roasted malt, caramel, brown sugar, toast, charcoal, touch of tangy fruit, smoke, toasted coconut and some alcohol warmth, with a dry-roasted finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. A decent imperial stout, if a little unexciting.

Opaque and near black in colour, with a slight, off-white head. Slightly sweet aroma of chocolate, blackberries and liquorice. Flavour began with some caramel sweetness, before more plain chocolate, fruit and a warming, bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Part of a special box of stouts for Christmas bought directly from the brwery. Black small head with a powerful malty flavour that really dominates. Very easy to drink for such a powerful beer.Well done Bristol Beer Factory for this beer and the stout box produced before Christmas,

Bottle directly from the Bristol Beer Factory, Bristol, consumed at home 29.01.12 Pours dark, dark brown with a small filminess the head (what there was of it) soon disappeared. Little bit of meatiness, some Oxo, its good for not being sweet or to cloying, and with that in mind it reminds me a little of something like a Harveys Imperial Stout though with the greatest of respect to this decent beer it is not quite in that league. I don’t get too much of the dried fruitiness but I do get a slight sauciness and touch of salt. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Milky chocolate front, milk sugars, deep roast, some saltiness in the finish. Hint of booze in the finish, long and roasty. Lovely stuff, great end to the collection.

[500ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk, as part of ’12 stouts of Christmas’] Black pour, thin, bubbly tan lacing. Bitter dark chocolate aroma, malt and some alcohol on the nose. Same on the taste – it is nice and warming. Alcohol heavy on the finish. A good imperial stout [20122011]
