Sweet, black and extremely full-bodied. Unfermentable Lactose sugar (added during the boil) sweetens the Chocolate and Black Malt derived roast / burnt flavours.
Ingredients: Maris Otter Pale Malt, Crystal, Chocolate & Black Malts. Challenger Hops.
An historic beer, recreated for the modern drinker.

An old bottle, from Ken, many thanks my friend. Poured into my Toccalmatto glass to celebrate ’International Stout Day 2015!’. I nearly forgot about this so thanks to Tree House Jay for reminding me. It pours a lovely thick and full creamy beige lacing which is long-lasting and very prominent. It’s opaque. Chocolate malt colour. Aroma is pure lactose, sticky toffee pudding, fresh dough, ciabatta, some panetone cake, leather, blackcurrants and velvet. Taste is panetone cake, leather, blackcurrants, good use of Challenger, nice robust roasting, gentle, not ott, nicely done, raw Venezuelan chocolate compliments the light Swiss milk chocolate. Some obvious but very good usage of lactose, I say this is on par with or just as good as Left Hand Brewing’s Milk Stout. I think they could improve this by nitro but it’s a really excellent beer and one which I would love to drink on cask. Really good work.

Hand-pulled half-pint, shared with Gene in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, Oakengates during our day drinking around Shropshire. Black with a decent and lasting beige head. Nose is chocolate, coffee and cocoa. The taste follows the nose with a smooth blend of flavours with the same chocolate, coffee and cocoa like feel, nice balance. Not too sweet, a well made beer in good condition: wanted more, but we were on a mission.

Bottle. Decent milk stout but while this had the expected subtle sweetness it lacks intensity of flavour or length of finish.
