[500ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk, as part of ’12 stouts of Christmas’] Black pour, decent white head. Slightly creamy, cereal nose. Not as roasty as the Bristol Stout. Creamy finish, relaxed, quite mellow. Finishes quite chalky – milk of magnesia on the aftertaste [20122011]

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2012 12 stouts of Christmas tasting with Craig and Rich. Pours a dark brown colour with a thin, light tan head. Aroma of Weetabix malt, chocolate and a little milk. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a little CO2 prickle. This would make a nice breakfast beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Scopey (3246) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2011
Bottle at Brouge, Richmond. It pours very dark brown, with an off-white lace. The nose is cafe latte, milk chocolate, sweet liquorice and a touch of roasted malt. The taste is milk, chocolate, caramel, cola, sweet liquorice, cafe latte and some toasted malt, with a sweet finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Solid, but a too sweet for me.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dantheman278 (1319) - SCOTLAND - DEC 1, 2011
4.5% version. Bottle as part of the 12 Stouts of Christmas. Deep black, very little head. Nose is big on the milk, little on the stout - vanilla ice cream, red fruits, milk chocolate. Palate is sweet upfront, surprisingly fruity (strawberry sweetness even?), chocolate, and a nice roast streak leading through to the finish. Slightly thin body, but this was preceded by Dark Island Reserve so that’s probably why! Lovely beer, great start to the selection!

500ml bottle. Poured a bit flat, particularly compared to the recent few BBF beers I’ve had in bottle form. Deep, near opaque ruby/mahogany with a fine, disappearing creamy tan head; slight touch of lacework. Juicy dark, dried fruits, roast, milk chocolate, a hint of coffee and a touch of caramel on the aroma. Dryish roast balanced by a creamy, sweet milky chocolate character on the tongue accompanied by a juicy dark fruitiness. I felt the lactic character, especially on the tongue, gave an emptiness to the mid to end palate, but otherwise fine & more than drinkable. Finished with a lingering dry, soft roast & choccy bitterness. Soft, low carbonation, medium body but like the appearance not as much life on the tongue as previous bottles from the brewery.

Half pint, cask, 4.5% abv, air pressure, at Euston Tap. Tiny, fawn-coloured layer, fragile lacing. Ruby shade to a black body. Smell of sweet chocolate malts. Milk chocolate with mild notes of lactose. Roasted bitterness to the ending. Alright (London, 31.07.2011).
