Cask in The Rake. Colour is very dark brown, reddish at edges, tan head. Nose is sweet lactic, roasted malt, grain husk, milky chocolate. Taste is very sweet, lots of lactic milkiness, milk chocolate, roasted malt. Sweetness really dominates. Body is fairly light and on the side of watery.

August 20, 2012 - handpull at The Southampton Arms. Ruby-black pour, thick-looking, decent foamy tan cask head. Smells and tastes of mocha and malt beverage, very little alcohol - sort of sweet and cloying, lactic even. Slick, mildly carbonated, finishes quickly with a sweet cocoa finish. Wouldn’t drink it often, but it seemed okay - I would like to see more sourness though, less candy bar chocolate.

Cask. Dark brown. Creamy mouthfeel, lots and lots of lactose and sweet melted milk chocolate (but nothing gourmet).

Keg at Holyrood 9a. Black with an off-white head. A thick flavoursome stout. I just think that Milk stouts are not for me. The sweetness was difficult for me to stomache.

Bottle from Pete. Jet black, no heed. Smells soft and faintly sweet. Taste initially disappoints, as it seems to lack impact; but wait.... With each sip it takes hold. Becomes sweet, thick, smooth and coats the throat. Milkshake, super gentle roast. Compelling.

Interesting, with the creamieness of the lactose and the large sweetness that sets of the chocolate. A good beer.

Bottle direct from the brewery. Pours a near black, with tinge of treacle-ruby colour at the base of the glass. Head is thick and long lasting, cream in colour. Natural carbonation medium to low, could be lower but pretty bang on. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and sweet dirt. Mouthfeel smooth and a little sticky. Slightly sweet with caramel notes but not too sickly. Nice level of bitterness that lingers and balances well the sweetness of the beer. Great example of the style.

Bottle from Tomlinsons Beer Shop, Inverness
Black, thin ruby edges, big tan frothy head, good lacing
Aroma of soft roasted malts, deep dark caramel malts, some coffee, dark sugars, smooth, hint of toast
Taste of smooth roasted malts, milk sugars, deep caramel malts, bit of liquorice, soft dark sugars, bit of treacle, soft dark fruits, gentle, really good flavour
Palate - soft carb, medium body, smooth rich malts, good mouthfeel. Finish as main flavour, bit woody. smooth clean finish
Overall - Very good example of the style, so smooth and easy drinking yum yum

Dark with a small head, Chocolate is the dominant flavour although it doesn’t take over. A very pleasant stout.
