Bottled at oh6gdx’s birthday bash at chriso’s. Really dark black. no head. Cocoa aroma. Mid sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel and medium body. Earthy finish with low bitterness.

Bottle at Brouge, Richmond. It pours very dark brown, with an off-white lace. The nose is cafe latte, milk chocolate, sweet liquorice and a touch of roasted malt. The taste is milk, chocolate, caramel, cola, sweet liquorice, cafe latte and some toasted malt, with a sweet finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Solid, but a too sweet for me.

4.5% version. Bottle as part of the 12 Stouts of Christmas. Deep black, very little head. Nose is big on the milk, little on the stout - vanilla ice cream, red fruits, milk chocolate. Palate is sweet upfront, surprisingly fruity (strawberry sweetness even?), chocolate, and a nice roast streak leading through to the finish. Slightly thin body, but this was preceded by Dark Island Reserve so that’s probably why! Lovely beer, great start to the selection!

500ml bottle. Poured a bit flat, particularly compared to the recent few BBF beers I’ve had in bottle form. Deep, near opaque ruby/mahogany with a fine, disappearing creamy tan head; slight touch of lacework. Juicy dark, dried fruits, roast, milk chocolate, a hint of coffee and a touch of caramel on the aroma. Dryish roast balanced by a creamy, sweet milky chocolate character on the tongue accompanied by a juicy dark fruitiness. I felt the lactic character, especially on the tongue, gave an emptiness to the mid to end palate, but otherwise fine & more than drinkable. Finished with a lingering dry, soft roast & choccy bitterness. Soft, low carbonation, medium body but like the appearance not as much life on the tongue as previous bottles from the brewery.

Bottle from westcountry ales. Sweet vanilla icecream aroma from this dark brown beer with gentle carbonation, fairly sweet with a touch if stewed plums and roast barley in the finish.

Cask at Pineapple beer fest. Dark brown with no head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt and a bit of coffee. Taste is nice and milky, creamy, the intensity of which increases at the finish. Slightly oily feeling in mouth. Nice.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Black pour with a tan head. Coffee, malts, caramel and a little smoke aroma. Coffee, chocolate, raisin and licorice flavour. Dry, malty finish.

Half pint, cask, 4.5% abv, air pressure, at Euston Tap. Tiny, fawn-coloured layer, fragile lacing. Ruby shade to a black body. Smell of sweet chocolate malts. Milk chocolate with mild notes of lactose. Roasted bitterness to the ending. Alright (London, 31.07.2011).

Cask@Cask Pub And Kitchen, London. Very deep ruby red colour, small beige head. Aroma is dark dry fruits, some mild toasted notes as well as mild ashy notes as well. Flavour is roasted malts, some syrup, sweet fruityness as well as some mild sweet malty notes.
