Bottle direct from the brewery. Pours a near black, with tinge of treacle-ruby colour at the base of the glass. Head is thick and long lasting, cream in colour. Natural carbonation medium to low, could be lower but pretty bang on. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and sweet dirt. Mouthfeel smooth and a little sticky. Slightly sweet with caramel notes but not too sickly. Nice level of bitterness that lingers and balances well the sweetness of the beer. Great example of the style.

On cask at Euston Tap, pours black with a small beige head. Nose brings out lactose and some cocoa. Flavour is well-balanced, with cocoa and lactose in good balance. Medium bodied and chocolatey. Solid milk stout.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark mahogany with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, chocolate, caramel. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth, creamy chocolate, light liqourice bitter palate. Moderate to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Waitrose. Impenetrable dark brown. Hint of cholocate, liquorice, and pine. Sweet taste with a resinous citrussy tone. Velvety smooth, very full for the ABV and style.

Dark and inviting. Sweet and bitterness immediately make for a lovely contrast of flavours. Interesting.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 Bottle and then cask at The Holy Inadequate Etruria. Pours a clear dark brown to black colour with a medium mocha head. Aroma is sweet, of coffee, milk chocolate, lactose and roasted malts. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, milk chocolate and some fruit cake flavours also burnt caramel and smokiness on cask. Great balance of sweetness and bitterness. Smooth and creamy texture, soft carbonation and light bodied. Roasted and chocolate finish. Really nice.

MmmmMackesons and then some. Lovely sweet stout, if you like that sort of thing. Bottle pours a flattish black, and the aroma is of a good mocha; coffee and chocolate. Nice full mouthfeel, and the bitter dark malts are balanced by lots of lactose. Hopping light and difficult to discern. I like it, but may be sweet for some.
