Black colored pour. Nary a head on the thing. Just some tan bubbles. No lacing. Big roasted malt aroma. Sour, acrid taste with some malt notes some caramel. Too sweet. Sickly sweet almost. Not the worst.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. An opaque brown/black bodied beer with lighter brown hues that poured with a small and disappearing creamy-fizzy dark tan head. Rich, rummy raisins and juicier blackberry aromas intertwine with gentler roast and coffee tones. Again quite rich and sweet with raisin and prune dominating the fore on the tongue; plenty of dark chocolate and deep roastiness at the back. Some boozy warmth and rum-like, liquorice bitterness, though generally the alcohol is well integrated. Medium body, delicately carbonated - just enough to add crispness - and a lingering bittersweet coffee and berry, raisin finish.

Pours black and has a deep off white head which last about a third of the way down. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and earth. Coffee, rich fruit flavours.

Pours heavy black with no head. Aroma is vinous and red fruits, hints of dusted cocoa, suggestion of alcohol. Body is thick and heavy without being too cloying, bloody satisfying. Flavours are cherry chocolates, raisins, black chocolate bitterness with a healthy dose of blackcurrant too. Finishes with a mild alcohol burn. Generally great stout.

Bottled@my birthdaybash@Chriso. Very deep amber colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some dark fruits, mild ashes and some toasted nuttyness. Flavour is rather similar with some slight sourish wooden notes in the finish as well.

[500ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk, as part of ’12 stouts of Christmas’] Black pour, thin tan head. Yeasty, fruity aroma. Some clearly defined Belgian influence on the nose. Dark, roasty flavours before the traditional yeasty, wet-hay Belgian finish. Quite thin for 7.7% - but it’s good stuff, and the balance of the two flavour camps is well done [20122011]

12 stouts of Christmas tasting with Craig and Rich. Pours a dark brown colour with a thin, light tan head. Saison aroma of lemon, barnyard funk, white pepper and wet hay. Similar flavours with mild carbonation. Makes me think of a black saison. Just a little thin though.
