footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Oct 31, 2005 I think this was from Ernest, thanks.Looks like apricot juice and the nose is very fruity vs the smack down grapefruit I was expecting, don’t get me wrong as the hops are seriously present but the aroma is not dominated by them.Flavor is a smash of wonderful delights.Lots of floral hopiness but almost like they made this with apricot juice.Awesome fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Oct 19, 2005 LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLE!!!
In this corner, weighing in heavily we have MALT, and in THIS corner we have the undisputed HOPS!!! The malt hit me first with caramel, but for some reason I thought it would be better natured. Hops weigh in immediately, but these guys just aren’t seeming to let go their diferences. I see them holding the ropes, sizing each other up, but no fair play appears to be in order. Must have long ago taken a blow to the head as the only thing that’s not hitting me immediately is the hefty ABV. Somehow I enjoyed the struggle, but not looking for anoher pounding anytime soon. Were this to get the teams on the same side it might be awesome, but the coach has to understand he rules of play. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2005 22oz bottle. Hazy semi-dark yellow, really a dull or mundane color, unfiltered, depressing like an overcast fall day. Aroma has the obligatory spoiled orange and fruit scent, along with some light tin and butter off scents. Flavor was really no different: I could taste the tin notes hidden underneath the thick, syrupy, spoiled fruit flavor. Texture was moderately thick, somewhat harsh, but overall very unpleasent as this beer never seem to take on any kind of good character: it was syrupy, a little hot, a little sticky, a little harsh... unpleasent sums up my feelings. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2005 Pours a transparent copper with a thin, lightly-lacing off-white head. Very complex floral hoppy aroma has a dense caramel malty balance. Body starts with some full, sticky caramel malt and plenty of grapefruity hop presence. Good complexity throughout, but has some burn in the finish. Interesting brew and if it hid its alcohol better, it would be really good. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Sep 11, 2005 Bottle. Light cloudy orange pour. Sweet malts, alcohol, and a ton of fragrent hops. Huge hoppy flavors, more sweet caramel, upfront alcohol, and apricots. Harshly and agressively bitter. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Sep 2, 2005 ruddy dark tan with a cream colored head. sweet apple, sugar, and with a bittergrassy grapefruit note. blueberry poptart(with frosting) flavor at first. honey flavor with grapefruit all over and amazingly tart. finish is vanilla ice cream and lingering grapefruit and malt. enjoyable, but a bit too much grapefruit. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Sep 2, 2005 Bottle. Perfect tawny body with a one finger head. Nose-raisin, fig, dried dark fruits. Taste-not overly sweet, which is a hard thing for a 2XIPA to acheive. Notes of alcohol, grapefruit, pine resin, and citrus zest. There is some coffee and tea like flavors on the back end. The finish is like a combonation of coffee, chocolate, and melon. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Aug 26, 2005 Poured a hazy orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Aroma is malty, sweat with very ripe peach and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, acidic, malty with a medium to full body. Finish is very bitter and extremely long. Not balanced and finish is harsh.
