Commercial Description:
Our biggest beer by far, Old No. 23 revives an English farmhouse brewery tradition of making a strong ale to set aside for special occasions. Our version, while tedious and time-consuming to brew, rewards the connoisseur with an ale that has the depth and complexity of a good brandy or single malt scotch. Massive quantities of malt and hops, a long aging time and limited availability make this a special ale worthy of its reputation.

Bottle 2006. Heavy malt aroma. Taste a little like at heavy brown ale, with round malty body. A hint of hops too. nice but not that complex.

12 oz bottle, 2007, from BeerandBlues2 - thanks Brad! Clear, orange amber with a slight beige head. Nose is maltarded (a phrase coined at RSG08) - lots of sweet, sweet malt with a resiny orange citrus tone and a pinch of alcohol. Very sweet caramel malt flavors, rich and full, light brown sugar and an herbal tone. Silky smooth and rich. A very nice BW - I’m boogered after this! w00t!

Bottle from trade with BeerandBlues. Mostly clear copper-orange color, bits of soapy white head. General sweet malty character, apricots, kind of an English character. Very sweet taste, bit of a hop tingle on the finish. Pretty mild, but really nothing detracting from this. Nice.

Bottle from BlackforestCO. Pretty amber/ruby color with off white pinkish head. Aroam of malt, milk, and light dark fruit. The flavor was the same with chocolate and light cherry notes. Smooth, clean, malty thick mouthful.
