Dark brown pour, almost black, with a small tan head. Resolves to a swirly ring atop the beer. Roasted beans, coffee grounds, chocolate, licorice and some smokiness. Smokiness drops almost entirely from the flavor, allowing the chocolate and roast notes to shine through. Medium bodied, appropriate to style. Lengthy finish, sweet and roasty.
drjay44 (65), USA Jul 4, 2008 Dark, with tan head. Not much aroma, very light on the tongue, flavor too light. I did not care for it. Crosling (1590), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 29, 2008 Dark brown color with a white head that quickly diminishes into a small collar. Very faint aromatics overall, a very light touch of malt character (some smoke, and a very light hint of chocolate and roast. Thin bodied beer. Flavor is also very muted, with some light notes of rubber, a touch of smoke, some fruit and some roast. I was expecting more from such a high quality brewer. jcwattsrugger (3724), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2008 @Hoboken#1-thanks beastiefan2k –pours a disappearing tan head and dark brown color. Aroma is sweet dark malt, smoke. Taste is sweet dark malt, faint smoke. Easy but somewhat thin. puzzl (1624), New York, New York, USA May 15, 2008 Bottle shared by BeastieFan2k I think at Paul’s gathering. Thin, beet sugar aroma, light maple smoke. Very thing flavor, liquid smoke, veggies. Dull. jayg (976), Florida, USA Apr 23, 2008 Bottle from trade with BeerandBlues. Dark chestnut brown with a thin off-white head. Light smoke and juniper characters, light roast way in back, but not nearly roasty enough. Taste is pretty even, not too much roastiness, some mild nutty notes on the finish. Decent, but as a porter it kinds falls short.
