11th October 2008. GABF. A light stout. Not getting that oatmeal smoothness. Toasted malt. Slighly dissapointing.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ditmier (1509) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 15, 2009
Draught @ Falling rock - Pours thin and dk brown with a small tan head...aroma is roasty milk chocolate and some slight burnt wood, some grainy grittiness but nothing detracting...flavour is similar, a bit thin, roasted cocoa malt, burnt wood, water...decent...
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Pours nearly black, minimal lacing - aroma is equal parts intense roast and strong chocolate sweetness, with a touch of vanilla and anise, even some faint notes of bourbon - creamy, medium bodied - fairly sweet up front, but this is quickly brushed aside by roast and bitterness - coffee, chocolate, tobacco, char - a little bit ashy in the finish - decent.

Aroma - heavy roast, coffee;
Appearance - black, opaque, fluffy cream head, excellent lacing;
Taste - sweet malt front, roasted back, somewhat bitter finish;
Palate - slight crispness, great body, faint alcohol burn;
Overall - wonderful in all areas, doesn’t blend as well as it could, nice on a cold day.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 alagnak (467) - Littleton, Colorado, USA - NOV 25, 2009
Bottle. Marked 3rd week of November so pretty damn fresh (nov 24 today). Pretty beer... Deep, deep brown with a short tan head. Nice carbonation bubbles. Nose is heavy on the sweet oats, taste is spot on brown sugar oatmeal. Slight cherry flavors. Just touches of bitterness and roastiness to finish. Slight watery finish. This is good, but I wish it had a touch more roast or hop profile.

Draught. Brown/black thin tan head. Typical oatmeal. To thin in texture for my likings. Aroma is oat, chocolate and light coffee. Flavor is mild and kind of sweet with oatmeal, chocolate, grapefruit, and coffee.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheEnemy (562) - Chicago, USA - AUG 7, 2009
12oz bottle. Pours a rich dark brown with tan foamy head that leaves nice bits of lace around the glass. Aroma is nutty, malty, toasted grains with a hint of pine and fruity esters. Flavor is dry, pleasantly bitter, toasty, nutty, a little chocolaty, and surprisingly piny. Glides down with a smooth, fairly creamy palate.
I didn’t ever figure I’d like piny-hop flavor in a stout, but this is the second such stout I’ve had where it blends unusually well (the other being Rogue Chocolate Stout). Moderation appears to be the key. When done right -- and it is here -- it’s a nifty touch.

Poured black with tan head. Aroma of sweet malt. Good sweet malt flavor with chocolate and oatmeal hints.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mrbirmingham (37) - Kansas, USA - APR 18, 2009
Aroma: Roasted malts and dried Fruits
Appearance: It ours black with a tan head,
Flavor: Roasted grains, bitter bite,
Mouth feel: It has a full body.
Overall Impression: I purchased this beer based on the recommendation of customer at the liquor store. I was looking for beers from breweries I had not had before. This beer fit the bill plus had a glowing recommendation. When all is said and done, it a good stout, but I don’t see my self purchasing it again. There is nothing wrong with the beer; there just is anything memorable about it.
