Bottle. Hints of oatmeal and burnt toast. A dry aftertaste, mild body with oak finish. Not too bad for a winter stout.

Poured from a bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a moderate tan head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of roasted malts, oats, and chocolate. Roasted malts with hints of chocolate and coffee and well as a oaty presence. Creamy and smooth. A nice beer to enjoy with the incoming cold weather.

Bottle from beerandblues. Dark chocolate aroma and a little bit of a roasted coffee smell as well. Big thick tan head and subsequent lacing. Smooth and creamy texture. Some fruit on the back end. Front is roasted coffee again and bittersweet chocolate.

(Bottled in week 2 of Feb. (presumably ’07) via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=9 target=blank>BeerandBlues2, thanks Brad!) Pretty darn yummy...Pours very dark brown with some garnet highlights. Two fingers of level tan head. Nose is pretty much straight up coffee and dark and milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is great, smooth, almost silky, lightly oily. Flavor is classic sweet stout - coffee roast and chocolate. Hints of grassiness in finish. Quite good.

I think this came from crizay. Pours brown with a trace of a tan/off white head. Smells of gingerbread, caramel, molasses, syrup, some pepper. Tastes of spice, pepper, warming alcohol, some chocolate. Palate is full bodied. Traces of bitterness on the finish.

Had this beer on 2/26/1999. Color is black, carbonation and head are very low. Aroma is a deeply rich roasted malt scent. Taste is a dark roasted malt flavor with lightly burnt tones. It starts with a rich body that goes down with a slight sharp feel and a black coffee taste. The finish is a rich dark roasted malt flavor with an even bitterness but no noticeable hop flavor. This is one of my favorite Stouts.
