| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 6, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a frothy tan head that mostly diminishes and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet lactic chocolate, some coffee and some charcoal and vegetal notes.
The flavor is sweet chocolate, coffee, and some anise with a burnt bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with low carbonation.
Overall a very nice winter stout. The burnt bitterness balances out the sweet notes nicely. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2007 Updated: Mar 1, 200712 oz bottle via beerandblues2 (thanks!). Pours black with a large tan head. Love the burnt/roasted nose with subtle notes of chocolate & vanila. Taste starts semi-sweet, then the roasted barley kicks in, followed by a little chocolate & coffee that is nicely balanced by some earthy hops. A little salty and with some soy in the finish as well. A little smokiness is noted. The oats don’t come through until the aftertaste. Thin/medium body. Moderate carbonation. A sweet stout? Not tasting hardly any sweetness, i would say this is just a Stout, but a pretty good one. waolsen (1222), Littleton, Colorado, USA
