Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 1, 2006 Black, milky chocolatey aroma. full palate. Some toasty flavors, some sweetish chocolatey flavors. The Bride summs it up thusly She said that when she was younger, she used to make a coke float with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. This had the same notes of cola, chocolate and vanilla. Minus the chunks of vanilla ice cream, I suppose. Thanks to Springslicker for this one! OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with SpringsLicker! - Thanks Jay! Pours black with a pretty large tan head that stays well and laces some. Aromas of good roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is chocolate upfront but gives way to some roasted malts and coffee bitterness. Beautiful thick creamy mouthfeel with just enough carbonation to make this feel soft and full but not overly heavy.. I found this one pretty tasty and one that I would certainly reach for again if it was in my area! FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Jul 27, 2006 Bottled November 2005, Sampled July 2006
Pours with a frothy, initially two-finger thick, brownish tan colored head. The beer is a pitch black color that showed rich, brilliantly clear, chocolate brown notes as I poured it into my glass. The aroma is a hearty mix of chocolate, espresso and sweet, creamy malt notes. Interestingly enough this reminds me a bit of a coffee liquor, the mix of sweetness and roasted coffee is unmistakable. Quite an enticing aroma on this beer.
Wow, this certainly has a thick creamy mouthfeel to it. The beer just coats my palate, but does have a touch of prickly carbonation to add just a hint of balance. The beer finishes with a noticeably roasted acidity and just a bit of hop bitterness. The roasted espresso notes also add some bitterness to this beer. Up front creamy chocolate notes intermingle with a malt ball-like sweetness. The only detracting note is perhaps a hint of chalkiness in the finish. This is a really nice beer though and I am certainly enjoying quaffing this brew. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2006 Large head of light tan over a black body. Pretty cascade of tiny bubbles.
Roasted, almost burnt, malt aroma.
Same flavor as the aroma with a light, underlying sweetness. If you put Oatmeal in the name, I want to be able to chew on it and this was a bit thin for me. bgoguen (53), Colorado, USA Jun 8, 2006 No Sam Smith’s, but decent. Not the best stout I’ve ever had, but it was drinkable. Decent roasted malt flavors, good color, but you can tell stout is not Bristol’s specialty. Ughsmash (3980), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 23, 2006 Bottled. Poured a deep brown with a tall, long-lived cap of deep toffee head... lots of sediment suspended in there. Nose was of medium-heavily roasted cocoa and coffee with some woodsy aspects to it. Flavor was heavy on the roasted espresso with chalky cocoa and leafy hoppage. Medium-bodied and quick across the palate... leaving a trail of moderate bitterness and roasty espresso in its wake. Tasty brew. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 6, 2006 October bottling? Creamy fast fading tan head. Dark brown body. Roasted malt, coffee, oatmeal, light sour milk in taste. Pretty creamy full flavor of roasted coffee and chocolate, sour milk and/or steamed milk. Also some brown sugar and light tar. Good flavor, which unfortunately gets overwhelming at times. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Mar 25, 2006 Bottle: Dark brown, thin light brown head, foamy, sparce lacing. Nose of bittersweet cocoa, apple skin, coffee beans, and very slight soy. Noticeable milk sugar on the tongue, dry semi-sweet cocoa, not so much coffee or soy, but a slight bit of charred earth. Tastes more like a traditional Sweet Stout, unlikes its aroma. Full bodied, silky mouthfeel. Dry chalky finish, lingering cocoa. Fairly tasty. Thanks Tom for the bottle!
