wetherel (1217), Encinitas, California, USA Oct 13, 2008 Just released today for this year. On tap at the brewery. Tried two different versions: nitro and CO2...and what a huge difference. I’ve always preferred nitro, because of the creamy mouthfeel, but man does it kill the aroma and the flavor. The CO2 bubbles popping on you tongue create a mist of aroma that reach your nose greatly enhancing the aroma. And I always confuse aroma with taste, so the taste is much stronger. Not to mention the zing of carbonation on your tongue. Nevertheless, CO2 and Nitro are both good in their own ways, and I prefer each equally. Chocolately, mildly sweet, low bitterness. Very easy to drink.
ucusty (1306), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Dec 31, 2008 Thanks to Secret Santa for this! Black pour with one finger chestnut colored head a film of drippy lace. Oats and dark fruits on the nose. Medium bodied, creamy mouth feel. Chocolate, dark fruits, and roasted malts. Light bitterness and slightly dry. NachlamSie (1444), Tennessee, USA Dec 31, 2008 12 oz. from the first week of November sent to me by Acrdz. Thanks! This is a rather dark stout, I was surprised by its shade of black. Not much of a head forms. The aroma is vinous with hints at prunes, molasses, and chocolate. This seems to be rich and sweet. Oats are more noticeable in the flavor and this has a pleasantly meaty body to it. Dark fruits float around my palate and hints are made at licorice, earth, and chocolate before finally residing on a nutty, woody finish. This is a treat! Blaketj80 (28), Oklahoma, USA Dec 2, 2008 Enjoyable beer. Spicy and malty but lacks aroma. Good carbonation. Goes down really easy with a nice subtle sweet finish. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 7-9-08 bottle <br />
Thick dark brown black with a chocolatey tan head. Smell is roasted oatmeal cookies fresh out of the oven. Flavor is oatmeal and chocolate and sweet malt. Nice smooth and nearly creamy palate. Very good overall, all around
