DLD via sprinkle: Black inky and oily appearance, small lasting frothy head, very good lace. The aroma has notes of molasses, city + coffee, plum, tobacco, chocolate, oak, floral hops and a hint of peat moss. The taste is chewy malts and dark fruits with a noticeable soy sauce undertones, tobacco and boozy too. The coffee notes and earthy peat character upon the finish does help round the palate a great deal. The mouth feel is oily and lush with a warming finish, could be a bit heavier in the body however. Not too bad considering the source.

Pours a dark chocolate brown color that appears black in the glass with a half finger mocha head that quickly settles. Spotty lacing left behind. Looks pretty viscous. Sweet, boozy aroma with lots of dark malt and subtle smoke. Toasted with roasted dark malt, chocolate, toffee, coffee bean and oatmeal. I’m also picking up some licorice and subtle dark fruit. Medium bodied but a bit thinner than expected with a nice balance of roasted and sweeter malt notes. Slightly smokey with hints of dark chocolate, oatmeal, toffee coffee bean and vanilla. It’s also slightly spicy with licorice, pepper and dark fruit which provide a pleasant sweetness that counters the heavier malt flavors. Subtle hop bitterness in the finish. Decently balanced with a well masked ABV but definitely still a sipper.

Thanks ucusty for sharing this one. Pours a dark black with some light and a one finger light tan head. The nose is sharp, smells of fruit skins, sweet, acetaldehyde? Not sure what was going on in the flavor or aroma. Had a tartness to it that I couldn’t figure the origin of. Tastes of mothballs, roasty, some astringency. Not too hot on this one.

Bottle at toncatcher’s T3 tasting. What kind of crazy cool name is this? Insanely rich aroma. Lots of malty and chocolate flavors.

Sample from a bottle shared by sprinkle @ DLD09. Pours black with a small tan ring. The aroma was roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, and earthy. The flavor was roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits (prunes), with an earthiness to the finish. This showed a bit of alcohol as well. Not the star of the show, but a solid imperial stout in its own right. Rating # 18 for this beer.

12oz. handbottle, with thanks to sprinkle! Pours a dark brown/black with a minimal covering of large loose bubbles. Aroma is heavily roasted malts, molasses, caramel and dark fruits. Flavor is more ripe dark fruits, caramel and roasted malts. Not bad, but nothing too special. Thanks again Mike!

Had some from the kegged batch at the 2009 State Fair. Pitch body with a short tan ring for a head. Dark chocolate with fruity accents. Roast with a touch of molasses and creamy earth. Fullish body, nice and thickish. Alcohol is a bit out of control, though I’d probably still have guessed under ten. Few stale notes - was this slightly oxidized?

Hand bottle from sprinkle shared by Odeed. Thanks Mike and Jake! Very dark cherry brown with a slight ring of bubbles. Nose is very much more fruity than I am used to in ISs. It is like chocolate raspberries, caramel, and prunes. Flavor is chocolate, pepperiness, alcohol, dark fruit, and light bitterness. Finish lightly bitter.
