COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
1991 Gold Medal Winner at GABF. Bitter is a traditional English pub draught. Extra Special defines a stronger maltier version. Our bitter is brewed using generous amounts of malt and kettle hops. This leaves the dinker with a hop aftertaste balanced with the sweetness of the malt.

On cask at the brewpub. Pours brown with no head. Aroma sweet caramel and bready with some biscuit and light herbal hoppiness. Flavor is sweet and malty with a stronger bread and caramel very much hoppy for the style. Finishes lightly bitter.

On draught at the restaurant. Since it was dark where we were seated, I can’t give an accurate color or clarity description. Aroma was mostly of piney, resinous hops. I absolutely loved digging into the fine, pillowy head that only cask ales can provide. Good body and full mouthfeel, but overall the flavor on this was kind of bland, which was a dissapointment after earning such high marks for appearance and pallate.

aroma is toffee, hops, caramel. Could be more malty, but a little too hoppy for me. Good character, palate is lingering, malthy slight/medium hops. okay drinker for 1 or 2 brews..

Served on cask at the brewpub. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium white fizzy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet sugary malts with a grainy finish. The taste is sweet earthy malts, raisins and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied.

Cask conditioned. Pours amber with a thin ivory head. Big malty aroma with a hint of hops. Malt, caramel, and over-ripe orange flavors with a bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Nice balance. Very enjoyable and true to the ESB style.

Pours dark amber with a mostly receding off-white head. Notes of earthy hops, woody, light pine, citrus, and crackery, sweet toasted malt. Medium bodied, light resins with soft carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

Had this on tap at the brewpub but was in town for a wedding with a lot of family and didn’t take good tasting notes beyond the numbers.

Draught at the pub. Muddy chocolate body, light beige head. Nutty, muddy malt nose. Taste has a good brown malt and toffee structure with light English hops in the bg. Watery light body with light hops mixed in. Want to try this again, others have raved.
