COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2006 Indiana State Fair Brewer’s Cup -- Best of Show. Hopsia is an American IPA that is all about the hops. The flavors and aromas of Simcoe, Cascade and Centennial hops are showcased against a strong malt background. This fine beer was created by Thomas Altstadt and with it he won the Brewer’s Cup, which is awarded to the best beer in the State Fair’s Home Brewing Competition.

On tap.
Pours orange-auburn with a clumpy white head that leaves wads of lace on the sides. Aroma is intense and reveals prety standard American IPA characteristics: sweet malt, citrus/grapefruit, pine, and earthy hop bitterness. Flavor is hop bitter up first, then citrus and pine show up next, the pine being particularly assertive. Decent malt backbone is not as well balanced against the hops as I’d like but it does provide enough support to keep this from being an undrinkable Hop Hell like too many American versions of this style. Very solid mothfeel and good, thick palate with a bit of stickiness on the roof of the mouth. Hopheads will not be disappointed.
