2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 irishsnake (354) - Oakland, California, USA - JUN 30, 2004
(sample @ brewery) a deep gold, lightly hazed, with good lacing. aroma is lightly hoppy (light for an IPA, that is), with prominently citrus-y American hop notes. flavor starts malty, then gives way to an unpleasantly astringent bitterness. hops and malt show decent balance, but ultimately astringency hinders the drinking.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 burgerlicious (308) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - JUN 28, 2004
The carbonation was very active. The hoppy taste wasn’t surprising for an IPA.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 cherr (162) - Rochester, New York, USA - JAN 18, 2004
I had this beer on tap at the brewery. The color is a medium amber. The head is cream in color. The smell is of grapefruit and floral hops. The taste does not disapoint. It is extremely hoppy as an IPA should be. Overall very good beer.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 dougdecinces (78) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - MAY 9, 2012
On tap. Poured a cloudy, pale orange (think Belgian Wit) with no head. Little aroma. Flavor is very hop-forward. Striking, bracing bitterness but not much in terms of balance. Sticky, chewy, resinous palate. Not my favorite.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 jahughey (65) - Franklin, Indiana, USA - SEP 12, 2005
Unique brewpub IPA. Not much hops in aroma, more bready, malty. Fairly pale IPA, surprisingly hoppy in bitterness and flavor, comparable to, but better than, Grant’s IPA. Appropriate light carbonation (uncommon in most IPAs), quite dry on the palate. Very addictive belt of bittering and flavor hops - one of the bitterest, yet most drinkable IPAs on the planet. No surprise the owner is from England.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 krautdog (15) - Gimmelstümph, GERMANY - APR 8, 2008
I had this on tap at the brewpub, served in an imperial pint glass. It was a nice copper color, nice head retention and actually tasted pretty good. It’s more in the style of a traditional British IPA, not the hop bombs typical of the American versions that I usually drink so, this one was a nice change of pace.
