Broadhead’s Dark Horse Stout is a full-bodied, rich and creamy oatmeal stout that bristles with bold, unbridled taste. Blending roasted malt and oatmeal for a solid footing, this smooth, dark beer has shades of bitterness that gives Dark Horse the perfect edge.

On tap. Dark brown with a thin ring of tan foam. Flavors are roasted cereals, coffee and dark chocolate with fruity and chalky notes. Medium body, soft carbonation, slick texture. Mouthfeel is a bit lacking. Really easy drinking, low-key stout.

Chocolate well carbonated no head. Ok stout at the brewery. Drinkable stout.

341 mL bottle. Pours black, dark reddish walnut at the edges with a cap of khaki head. Aromas of coffee, cookie like malt, toffee, cocoa and mild dark fruit. Moderate sweetness, with smooth roast character, not ashy or acrid. Average body with a creamy mouth feel. Modest carbonation. Unique.

Dark brown body with 2 fingers of mocha head. Aromas and flavour are of dark, chocolate, black coffee and oatmeal. My only real knock on this one, was that the mouthfeel was a little thin for what I expect from my stouts. Of course that made it one quaffable stout.

[growler--thanks, Cory!] Hugely roasty aroma: coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and vanilla with notes of red fruit and faint citrus. Opaque black with dark brown, almost clear, highlights under a light brown ring and patch. Sweet and bitter coffee and mocha flavour with fudge brownies with raspberry coulis. Balance toward sweet. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation, smooth.

Sampled at the 2014 Winterbrewed Craft Beer Festival on Valentines’ Day. Poured a dark brown colour with a beige head and thick patchy lacing. Mostly chocolate aromas with soft vanilla over the roasted malt and hints of coffee. Medium-bodied with some stickiness. Taste of coffee and roasted malts with a little sourness. An easy drinking stout.

Tap at 3030. Pitch black pour with a thick brown head. The aroma has a lot of cocoa and dark coffee with a nice roasty component. Solid malt profile through the middle. Sweetish through the middle bit with a dry roasty finish. Pretty solid.

clear dark brown pour with a small if not absent cap, no lacing. chocolate roasty notes, coffee, lactose, ashes, red fruity notes, chalk, woodsiness, bit of resin, bit of booze. low carbonation, light to medium body - oily, bittering coffee and slightly resinous finish. by the book stout if not for the lack of looks. yeah i’m like that.

Nice stout. Well-balanced with coffee, dark chocolate and roast malt. Pours black with ok head and lacing. Finishes with mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Tap at Black Tomato.
