Broadhead’s Grindstone Amber is a tenacious and tasty, rich-coloured amber ale that is hell-bent on hitting the spot. Bolstered by just the right balance of base malts, and finished with a strong but sweet sharpness, Grindstone is not for the laid-back beer drinker.

Growler from the source - Looks and smells like a macro amber, tastes like the upset was in the works, but didn’t pan out.

Lives up to it's name. Amber in colour. Very grainy aroma. Bitter finish and a bit metallic. Very strange taste at the end. One was enough.

Smell is very grainy, cereal, pours clear amber with an off white head. Fairly light bodied, mildly bitter but in a somewhat "off" way. A bit of a dirty taste. Needs a bit more, tastes pretty standard.

Can from the LCBO, nothing special but it is a tasty beer, like the bitter hit at the end. Nice break from some over the top IPA’s This is just good simple beer. I suggest you try some.

473 mL can. Pours mostly clear copper-amber pour, couple fingers of slightly off-white head, fair bit of lacing. Peach and hop nose, some grain. Taste has a stronger malt presence, but still a fair bit of fruit. Alright but just.

Poured from can. Golden colour with minimal head. Slight haziness. Floral aroma. Sweet malt flavour, medium mouth feel. Well balanced sweetness with slight bitter finish. Pretty good.

Purchases at the LCBO. Minimal aroma or taste. At least it’s refreshing, though.

473 ml can from LCBO. Pours a pale amber colour with small white head. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is same. It’s not a bad beer, but it’s definitely boring.

Can: Poured a clear amber color ale with a medium foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt with light grainy notes is not the most interesting. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with grainy notes. Body is about average with OK carbonation. Boring amber ale that I can’t’ really say I would wish to drink again.

pours unclear medium dark golden orange with a small orange-ish head, some retention and nice lacing. spicy and fruity maltiness - some overripened apricots and other lightly tart orchard fruits - not quite rotten, woodsy and grassy, hint of dust, light carbonation - prickles a little, pepper. light body - slightly watery; balanced spicy-herbal-grassy finish. average amber at best.

Can from the LCBO. Clear and bright copper-amber with a healthy white head that dissipates slowly. Aroma of lightly caramelized malt, a hint of vanilla cookie, and twiggy hops. Flavour starts moderately sweet with caramel and sugar biscuit notes, gets a bit green and earthy in the middle, and finishes with black tea and subtle orange peel. Not too bad!
