COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If you hadn’t heard, Broadhead partnered with OntarioBeerKegs to see who could do up the best batch of homebrew. The winning beer engineer was given the chance to brew their recipe as a pro-am collaboration with Broadhead and, even better, their beer would be featured by us at the 2013 WinterBrewed Festival in Ottawa. So, if you’re planning to celebrate the winter weather with us this weekend at the festival, you’ll get to try Emil’s deliciously sweet and feisty beer first-hand. What’s this brew all about? Well, as the name suggests, Emil goes heavy on the fruit – raisins, dates, apricots, cranberries, figs, you name it – to concoct a rich, red-coloured ale that’s deliciously sweet, high in alcohol content and full of flavour. The ingredients caught our judges off guard, but trust us when we say that this beer is absolutely exceptional.

on tap at wellington gastropub, ottawa. cloudy dark copper-red with a small light beige rind, little retention. loads of phenols, awkward blend of spices, molasses, red fruitiness - maybe some candied fruits, but also rotten ones, raisins, some woody notes. sweet - cloying. average carbonation, medium body - oily. horrid - had too many ounces in that sample - had to ask barman to drain pour it.

On tap at Winterbrewed 2013. Was leary to try this as I do not like fruitcake and given that the beer delivered as promised it wasn’t really my things...I will say that if you like fruitcake though you may like this. Hazy dark amber with a slightly biege head. Fig, prune, cranberries, wet oats. Moderate body and carbonation, somewhat sweet but builds to a stronger grainy sweetness, odd aftertaste. Did not like this but an interesting brew for sure and always happy when new things are tried out.
