(Rating #3298)

My Bottom Line:
Herbal, spicy hops grow within slender Munich malts in this very drinkable Dunkler Bock.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam laces around the clear amber-hued russet.
-The flavor profile is balanced throughout.
-Although well crafted and approachable, the mouthfeel could be a tad softer and round (for my tastes in the style, anyway).
-The flavor profile is perhaps understated for North American palates. This is the kind of beer that requires a pint. My kind of afternoon brew, basically.

On tap at the brewpub.

A reddish cognac coloured bock with a thin moka head. A rather chalky caramel malt aroma with sweet fruity esters, light oxidation. In mouth, a nutty malt with torrefied coffee notes, not bad. On tap at St-Bock, as Broadway Bock, June 20 2010.

Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 3. Clear ruby with a solid lasting off-white head. Mild, slightly dry floral aroma only partially ameliorated by a vague maltiness. the taste followed - weak, floral, tries to be somewhat sweet, just comes across as watery, woody and burnt. Very light bodied, wan carbonation, and a quick, furtive finish - just barely okay - a sample cup full ’o not much, really.

Appearance: good shade of amber with hint of brown, large creamy , thick top (beige).
Nose: sweet, ripe fruity aroma , hint of plum ,and pear 6-.
Flavor/Palate : medium full bodied brew with lighter mineral sides. Good frontal woody bitterness paired with caramel malt. Solid ,clean brew with warmth at finish.

On tap @ Mondial 2009. Aroma has roasted malt, caramel and treacle, dark copper, small toffee head. Taste is moderately malty, caramel and nutty. Light bodied, balanced, pleasantly bitter, dry and easy to drink. Very good.

Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 17, 2008
Clear amber to very light brown coloured bock covered by a gentle off-white ring. Bready, well toasted and malty nose. Almost neglectable hops make a small appearance in the finish, through soft leafiness. Low attenuation. This remains cookie-like, with bear paws molasses biscuits undertones. Toffee and little fruits. Good.

Robe brune claire surmontée d’une mousse blanche en dentelle qui persiste. Arômes de soufre et de malt caramélisé. Saveurs de soufre et de malt caramélisé.
