Tap at Churchkey. Big bourbon nose that was almost nice, but is completely spoiled with heavy acetaldehyde. Taste is very sweet, very rough with again lots of acetaldehyde - green apple, some rubbing alcohol notes, plastic; Just an extremely messy beer.

Tap at the brewpub. Murky brown pour with creamy white head. Aroma is all apple pie with lots of spices and something strangely off about it all. Taste is very sweet and downright boozy, something very off here that I can’t put my finger on. Palate is decent, heavy and creamy but good. I probably won’t have this again any time soon.

Tap at Churchkey. Dark maroon, edge head. Aroma of embalming fluid - it was actually nauseating. Taste of rubbing alcohol, scotch and caramel candy. Best skipped.

Draft. Tan head atop cola/copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, Bourbon/vanilla, some vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, vinous/grape, vanilla/Bourbon. Lots of alcohol comes through. Sticky full body, low carbonation. Just another Bourbon behemoth that leaves very little character of the underlying beer.

Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 3. Two amazing beer in a row from these guys? Daaaaamn!! Cloudy deep chestnut pour with a smallish creamy tan head. Slightly lactic dry aroma with wood resin, alcohol, sweet malt and lush, floral bitterness - juicy and very mouthwatering, even to someone well into his third straight day of beer festival mainlining, grimly determined to power through as many last-day ratings as possible - THIS one demanded time be taken to appreciate it. The taste was as promised - Oaky, somewhat boozy, but balanced out by citrus bitterness and fruity roast caramel malt sweetness - very appealing, not much vanilla/bourbon, thank goodness. Somewhat boozy, slick mouthfeel, with some astringency from the oak, but smooth-finishing, a real orange rind tingle left on the tongue too. Yum-my!

Draught at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. Pours a murky orange-brown with a small lasting beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and bourbon along with some hops, toffee, wood and dark fruit. Flavour’s sweet and malty along with dark fruit, wood and just enough bourbon. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. Excellent stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown color. Small vanishing beige head. Abundant sweetish aroma with the strong tones of wine, raisins, vanilla, bourbon, wood, caramel and fruityness. A rich and intense flavor follows much the aroma. The warming notes of alcohol are modestly present both in aroma and in flavor. Long sweetish aftertaste. An enjoyable and complex barrel-aged Barley Wine, merci beaucoup Marc!
