Bottle: Poured a light blonde color ale with a large enough foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light grainy cereal notes is not the most interesting. Taste is also dominated by bland cereal notes with light unrefined grainy notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Bland and easily forgettable beer.

I bear a deep, and probably disproportionate, resentment for beers that claim to be things they clearly aren’t. I don’t care that the Devil’s Pale Ale is actually a dark mahogany, because its flavour profile is exactly as advertised. This beer however.....is a dirty rotten liar. For a brief, fleeting moment when you pour it out, it smells like faint sweet citrus and the merest hint of a pine forest. It fills me with hope that this may be a nice, light, drinkable baby APA. I watch some Jays highlights then take another whiff. Uh oh. In fairness, if this beer is iNTENDED to be consumed by horses, then it’s probably not a bad beer. In a nutshell (actually there is a vague nuttiness here) it smells and tastes like hay. Now, I’ve never actually EATEN hay, but I’ve smelled a lot of it, and this beer tastes like someone filtered it with some weird hippie woven-straw sieve....or something. As it’s brewed in Shawinigan I’m probably lucky if that’s the worst thing this beer has touched. (Apologies to Trou du Diable - an amazing brewery located in an armpit of a town. No apologies to Shawinigan, but sympathies to anyone who has to live there.) Anyway this beer sucks. It’s not putrid, but it’s bland, and slightly unpleasant, and, most importantly, a liar.

Draft at Vices et Versa with Andrew, Brendan, PJ, St and Ricky. Pours a light amber orange body wiht white lacing. Aroma is soft fruit and citrus hop. Mouthfeel is medium to soft with notes of grass, pine, citrus fruit and a light bitterness.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear light amber with a fairly full, loose off-white head. Aroma: Kinda sour and infected, Saison-like peppery and funky notes, bitter green herbs, a little resinous, not bad but odd for the style. Palate: Medium body, loose effervescence. Flav.: More of the Saison-like peppery/herbal funk, a bit of pine/resin, a little odd biscuit, strangely perfumy, messy; dry with very gentle bitterness and a strange soapy finish.

What a mess.

Bottle - 500ml. Beautiful cloudy amber body with a thick white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with grainy and piney hints. Taste is well balanced but it is relatively thin. It carries the same piney and grainy notes as the aroma. Ends with a decent bitter/grainy finish.

Small sample on tap at the brewpub. Thanks to David! Clear pale golden with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma if of citrus/lemon, cereals along with peppery notes. Taste is about the same. Unpleasant grassy finish. Light body, watery. Decent.
