Small sample on tap at the brewpub. Thanks David! Clear amber with a nice small beige head and heavy lacing. Aroma is of yeast, slight caramel notes and spices. Taste is moderately sweet with some fruitiness, caramel and spices. Medium body. Drinkable. I liked it.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2013 hazy light copper-reddish pour with a decent off-white head, some retention and lacing. lightly acidic, decent fruitiness, breadied malts and nuttiness, peppery yeast. average carbonation, light body, some sweetness, decent grassy short but assertive finish. so, i guess it ’’can’’ label the ’’maudite’’ reference, as enough elements are reminiscent of the ’’big’’ maudite. all be damned for stating that.

(8 janvier. 2013)

On tap at Brouhaha, dark copper color, with a beige head, with an earthy green, toasted, caramel malt, yeasty fruity, spicy nose of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves stewed apples, with a wet floral tobacco leafiness, grassy hop accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, spicy nutmeg, peppery cinnamon stick, fruity character of ripe apples, mild zesty lime, lemon peels, with an earthy grainy, raw toasted, caramel malty, green tobacco leaf, flowery grassy hop backbone, leading towards a grainy green maltiness, citrus lime rind, wet leafy, grassy hop bitterness finish.

In short: A basic yeasty/dirty/earthy and spicy belgian amber ale. Nothing special.
How: Tap at Chambly beer Fest 2010
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is yeasty and a bit spicy. Taste is very yeasty, earthy, forest floor, ripe fruits, nutmeg, cloves, dirt, caramel, leafy hops. This is some kind of light version of a traditional Belgium Christmas beer. A bit too dirty for my liking, far from clean, feels a bit messy. Nothing outstanding here but still quite drinkable. That’s what’s great about beer, it’s like sex. When it’s great, it is great. When it’s ordinary, it is still pretty damn good.

(Rating #2912)

Draft at ChurchKey. Pours a hazy glowing strawberry color with a one-finger, dense, white head that persists and leaves outstanding lacing all over the tulip. Aroma is a medley of spices (nutmeg, cinnamon), yeast, must. Taste adds more spice, intense candi sugar, baked cinnamon apples, strawberry mousse, some soapy hoppiness in the finish. This really is fantastic. Superior to Unibroue Maudite, which has gone downhill ever since it came out.
