In short: A basic yeasty/dirty/earthy and spicy belgian amber ale. Nothing special.
How: Tap at Chambly beer Fest 2010
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is yeasty and a bit spicy. Taste is very yeasty, earthy, forest floor, ripe fruits, nutmeg, cloves, dirt, caramel, leafy hops. This is some kind of light version of a traditional Belgium Christmas beer. A bit too dirty for my liking, far from clean, feels a bit messy. Nothing outstanding here but still quite drinkable. That’s what’s great about beer, it’s like sex. When it’s great, it is great. When it’s ordinary, it is still pretty damn good.

Draft at ChurchKey. Pours a hazy glowing strawberry color with a one-finger, dense, white head that persists and leaves outstanding lacing all over the tulip. Aroma is a medley of spices (nutmeg, cinnamon), yeast, must. Taste adds more spice, intense candi sugar, baked cinnamon apples, strawberry mousse, some soapy hoppiness in the finish. This really is fantastic. Superior to Unibroue Maudite, which has gone downhill ever since it came out.

Tap at Churchkey. Clear maroon, beige head, massive lacing. Aroma of toffee, flavor has more toffee, roasted malt, bitter edge. Very nice.

On tap at the pub. Pours an amber/copper body with a decent off-white foamy head. Nice hoppy aroma with malty and spicy hints. Sharp, refreshing malty/hoppy taste that carries nutty and oaky notes. Ends with a good bittersweet finish. Interresting.

Sampled @ Bieres et Saveur 09.09.07 : Copper in color, hazy it has a small head. A touch of caramel with fruity notes. I prefer the "big version " .

A nice dark brown alew with a lacing white head. A nice intense caramel aroma, with butterscotch notes. In mouth, a good caramel malt with good hops, nutty notes, fruity esters and a roasted final. Very nice. On par with Palm....this is the Maudite lttle sister, from a former Unibroue brewer. On tap at brewery, August 3, 2008.
