Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 3. Hazy amber pour, with a small but lasting white head. Wow factor in that aroma - strong sweet grain malt, dry, almost tannic wood resin, damn, it’s MUSTY but still fruity and yeasty, mid-level alcohol, and orange zest - himmel gott that pushed my nose buttons (oh, shut up). Tasted of orange peel, raisins, alcohol, old barnboard (dry, dusty, most of the resin leeched out of it), and amazingly, I got a real punch of roasted fresh-shelled pecans. Slick, lively, boozy mouthfeel, with lingering fruity acidity too - just terrific .... no idea what the hell it was, but I loved it.

A hazy amber ale with a thin off white head. A nice funky oak aroma, with vanilla, and Brett. In mouth. a pleasant clean malt with refreshing qualities, light sweetness, fruity esters, warming alcohol, very nice and quuaffable for a strong ale. On tap at Mondiale 2009.

En fût. Verre de 12 oz dégusté chez Brouhaha (Montréal, QC). Arôme: Odeur fruité avec une pointe vineuse. Apparence: La couleur est orangée. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût fruité avec une pointe de raisins et de caramel. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture vineuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. (Rating #2458)

Verre de 12 oz, d’un fût, au 1er anniversaire du Pub Brouhaha. Arômes de chêne et de fruits confis. Robe dorée foncée, légère mousse et effervescence très active. En bouche, le caractère du fût de chêne est à l’avant-plan avec des tanins boisés et des notes vineuses très présentes. Le malt joue ici un rôle de soutient. La carbonation très active rend la bière assez facile à boire pour une bière aussi fruitée. Une expérience intéressante et plutôt agréable.

Bu à Brouhaha pour leur premier anniversaire, le 4 juin 2009, en fut (12 oz). Brune vaseuse, peu de collet. Arome de vinaigre fruité avec une touche d’houblon. Goût de vinaigre de petits fruits, très sûrette et un petit peu boisé, arrière-goût de blé concassé doux. J’ai très aimé ça, je dois allé dire merci au Vignoble Île de Bacchus pour leur participation!

My Bottom Line:
Oaken tannins and vinous fruitiness permeate this buxom Tripel, nearly overwhelming the more humble banana esters and honeyed cereals.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A dollop of foam tops the dull, hazy golden amber.
-Some citrusy fruit character is also found within.
-The prickly effervescence helps drinkability, but those barrel flavors are a tad too intense to say this is really drinkable.
-Some alcohol heat is felt in the back, probably because of the barrel.
-Bready yeast roams underneath.

Hay brownish yellow. Aroma is wood, astringency, grapes, raisins and malt. Flavor is also very astringent, the red wine barrels are up front here. It is also woody with malt, grapes, caramel and fruits. Interesting.
