Sampled on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a slightly hazy brown color with a lg creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus and earthy hops with pear-like fruit notes and a nutty finish. The taste is caramel malts and very hoppy, including spicy, piney and earthy notes, and a lingering hop burn. Medium bodied.

On tap at Vices et Versas. Well done IPA. Nice malt flavour, good water and a very good hop balance even though the beer is quite bitter.

Aroma of pine and grapefruit typical from these brews but this one seems watery. Tastes green leaves, citrus and very hoppy but it clashes. This was very unbalanced to me.

On tap at Succursale, Montréal. Dark copper colour with an enduring thin layer of foam. Fruity aroma and a refreshing taste finishing with a bitter hint of mature or rotten fruit. Nice but more similar to most québécois IPA:s than those of the american west

In short: A basic fruity and floral IPA.
How: Tap at Chambly beer Fest 2010
The look: Clear golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: The not-so-hoppy nose has some fruity hops with some scented floral notes. Malt backbone has a some cookies, barley candy, a touch of honey, a touch of caramel. Fruity notes of cantaloupe, citrus fruits and a bit of grapefruits. Also some floral notes. Hopping feels very “juicy”. Finish has a resinous bitterness of medium intensity. Basically this beer was just an ok IPA, nothing special. I was curious to try this west-coast IPA attempt by this far-away quebec brewpub. So I decided to grab the bull by the horns. Literally. Now what?

A golden amber IPA with a thin light moka head. A herbaceous hops aroma with smooth malts, alcohol warmth. In mouth, a good biscuitty malt with nice floral hops, grapefruits notes, warming alcohol. Classic.

(Rating #3063)
