Draught. Pours a black colour with a short but steady long lasting creamy light brown head. The aroma has lots of chocolate with roasted malt. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is a bit sweet with lots of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and some chili. The finish is bitter and roasty with the chili sticking on the tongue and leaving a little burning feeling in the throat. Great different chocolate stout.

bottle, rbesg08. close to black with a brown head; a book that can be judged by its cover - plenty of bitter chocolate with some lactic sourness and whipped cream and then some intense chilli burning the tongue; probably just what i needed at this stage of the tasting, to be hit over the head with flavour

Opaque black stout, semi soft and semi dry palate. Mild dark chocolate with minerals. Then the chili starts, a slow and persistent burn that warms greatly without ever becoming searing. Unusual and well judged beer.

03-Aug-08 (500-ml bottle: RBSG 2008 in San Diego, CA) This chili chocolate stout is not designed to test your manhood. It’s a beautifully balanced stout with a pleasant disposition, not blasting the palate with intense flavors. Principally, it offers moderately bitter and slightly ashy roast, nuts, and plenty of dark baker’s chocolate with just a hint of sweetness. The use of chilis is perfectly subtle, deftly providing a touch of spiciness in the finish without igniting a fire in the back of the throat. The moderately aromatic nose is roasty and very chocolaty, and as with the flavor, the chili aroma is subtle. Medium-bodied from entry to finish, softly carbonated, and dry on the palate with just a whisper of chili-induced heat building after several sips. Very dark brown in color, topped by a small, light-tan head. An excellent stout on its own, but the perfectly balanced addition of chilis shows wonderful restraint and craftsmanship. Nicely done!
