4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 madsberg (7529) - Søborg, - MAR 7, 2008
Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Brown creamy lasting head. Sweetness, light chocolate, some fruits and spices in the aroma. Quite dense from the early start, but increases as the beer warms up. Flavour is light roasted, has loads coffee, light cocoa and chocolate. Has a touch of vanilla. Very well balanced beer, and quite complex. Is medium to full bodied. Quite dry. Ends on a roasty and light sweet note. Has some bitternotes as well. Where is the chili one could ask, but as others have stated, it really starts, when the bottle is emptied. A light burn on palate and lips finishes this beer in an awesome way. Definately the best chilibeer I ever tasted. Thank to my friend Henrik for bringing 2 bottles of this to Bangalore.

bottle, rbesg08. close to black with a brown head; a book that can be judged by its cover - plenty of bitter chocolate with some lactic sourness and whipped cream and then some intense chilli burning the tongue; probably just what i needed at this stage of the tasting, to be hit over the head with flavour

28th June 2009 Opaque black stout, semi soft and semi dry palate. Mild dark chocolate with minerals. Then the chili starts, a slow and persistent burn that warms greatly without ever becoming searing. Unusual and well judged beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - JAN 13, 2011
03-Aug-08 (500-ml bottle: RBSG 2008 in San Diego, CA) This chili chocolate stout is not designed to test your manhood. It’s a beautifully balanced stout with a pleasant disposition, not blasting the palate with intense flavors. Principally, it offers moderately bitter and slightly ashy roast, nuts, and plenty of dark baker’s chocolate with just a hint of sweetness. The use of chilis is perfectly subtle, deftly providing a touch of spiciness in the finish without igniting a fire in the back of the throat. The moderately aromatic nose is roasty and very chocolaty, and as with the flavor, the chili aroma is subtle. Medium-bodied from entry to finish, softly carbonated, and dry on the palate with just a whisper of chili-induced heat building after several sips. Very dark brown in color, topped by a small, light-tan head. An excellent stout on its own, but the perfectly balanced addition of chilis shows wonderful restraint and craftsmanship. Nicely done!
