4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, USA - JUL 23, 2004
Opaque lemon-tinged gold. Very thick, bright white head. Lemony hop aroma softened with sweet, cakey pale malts, peach skin, and flower petals. Underlying earth and perfume. Soft, juicy body. Quite creamy on the tongue. Hop flavors are remarkably soft and juicy, yielding more flavor than bitterness at first. Remarkable malt thickness displays flavors of honey and lemon cake. Loads of wet hay adds more thickness to the body as they collide with spicy hops and candied malts. Spicy bitterness tightens toward the finish, with a copious amount of conifer flavors underlain with mango and dried pineapple. Delicious IPA, focusing more on the subtleties of the hops, rather than the pungency. Tak, Dixen!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jesperhammer (1526) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 20, 2009
20-DEC-2009, bottle @home.
Experiment!!!
Will this drink at all? The lable says drink before 19-NOV-2006. That is more than 3 years ago! I know the story about IPA, and the long journey to India, but there is a signaficant difference between surviving a journey to India, and not just surviving 3 years in my "beer cellar", but also still be a pleasure to drink.
Some years ago, Brøckhouse and not least this brewed turned the danish beer scene around. This was beer of the year in the Danish Beer Enthusiast (DØE) (I cannot remember when).
It has been a while since I tried this last - probably more than 3 years.
So let’s see how this turns out.
I open the bottle, and the beer bursts out of the bottle. Not a good sign. I have never seen that in a Brøckhouse IPA. I pour some in my glass, and at first it looks beautifull orange with very nice almost white head. But then I see the sediments floating around. Not exactly a nice sight, but I will not deduct the appearance score because of this. I think that would be unfair, so a perfect 5 for appearance.
I stick my nose in the glass, and Wauw, it is still alive. Lovely nose. Not as hoppy as I would expect in an IPA, but quite malty together with the hops. Very flowery, quite yeasty.
Taste is wonderfull charamel, bitter, grapes, pines, and some sweetness.
OK carbonation, light bodied.
I guess that the hop-taste has faded, whereas the malts have stayed leaving the beer with another profile than originally.
I really like this beer. There are certain signs of the age, but overall it is far from dead, and still a pleasure to drink. That is quite a surprise. Not a very strong beer for aging, but nevertheless it survived.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gr0ve (1875) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 25, 2009
500 ml bottle. Yellowish amber. Hazy. Tall white head. High carbonation level. Citrusy floral hops. Medium-bodied. Quite a bit of malts. Note really very bitter and the sweet malts show through. Nice IPA:

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 lassem (639) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 24, 2009
Even though these guys went out of buiseness you can still be lucky to find some of their beers around. If ound a few and brought em back to the cellar. I really have had a lot from this brewerie over the years - but have never rated one. Today I´ll have to make up for that.
The pour is dark amber with an high foamy head. The nose is malty with dark hoppy notes along with some almonds and some blooming stuff from the cascade. The taste is nice and fresh - even though you can tell that it wasn´t hopped yeasterday. It has a nice creamy mouthfeel and leaves you with a calm bitterness. IThe malt taste is up front together with some fruits and marzipan. In the long run I guess it can be a bit too much but still it taste nice - and is a good memory.
