boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jan 3, 2008 Updated: Jan 4, 2008 Pours a very creamy beige head atop a clear but very dark mahogany body. The head diminishes very slowly and laces adequately. Belgian yeast, dark candi sugar, roasted grains, chocolate, caramel, coffee and multiple dark fruits arew all found within a subtle but lovely aroma. Notes of figs and apricot stand out. Alcohol is mild, almost unnoticeable. Anise and clove are notable spices. The flavor is a knockout! This is marvelous, candi sugar and yeast in perfect proportion and blended fantastically well with just the right amount of perfectly roasted malt. Sweetness is medium, bitterness low, astringency near nil. The finish is slowly drying, semi-sweet, moderately roasty and lightly bitter. The mouthfeel is creamy, sugary, sticky and smooth, medium-full bodied and lightly though amply carbonated. Delicious.
cmillward (270), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 30, 2008 Bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours mahogany with scant head. Cranberries, malty sweetness, brown sugar and xmas spices. Sweet and spicy with earthy hops, lots of plums and slightly mushy fruits. Low carb, nice finish, slightly tannic from spices. aru (86), Smørum, Denmark Dec 26, 2008 2008 edition! Dark reddish color with brown long lasting head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Enters the mouth with a rather rich palette but leaves a somehow messy picture dominated by anise. Actually I like the beer even as it is not splendid. vonsolms (18), Måløv, Denmark Dec 6, 2008 Updated: Dec 20, 2008I think it is a sign of the times that I was rather disappointed in the 2008 version. Sure, it was OK and I dare say it will improve a little if left, but it was just not as good as the 2005 or 2006. Or was it? I think it may well have been, but, pioneers as Brøckhouse were in the Danish microbeer explosion, they are now being left behind and our palates have matured. Now it seems thin, unbalanced and one-dimensional. Geuzelambix (89), København, Denmark Nov 29, 2008 Strond and sweet to a level where it is almost too much. Not a bad beer by any means, but it could be more well balanced. pivnizub (4181), Porúří, Germany Oct 21, 2008 Bottle: Clear, but many floaties visible, small beige foamy layer, sweet nutty and toasty nose; solid sweet-spicy flavour, medium bodied, soft MF; christmas spices in the lingering sweet-bitter, light alcoholic finish. Good, nourishing Ale............
