Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 13, 2006 A hazy orange beer with a light colored head. The aroma is sweet and alcoholic with some notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet and again dominated by the alcohol, but also with strong notes of over ripe fruit, leading to a dry metallic end - I guess the metal comes from the alcohol. This is a very mainstream Barley Wine - the style can perform so much better than this example, hence I find it boring. Papsoe (11421), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 12, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Slightly hazy amber with tiny, floating particles. Small, off-white head. Vinous aroma with distinctive alcohol. Full-bodied with notes of sherry - perhaps even cognac - and overripe plums. Warming alcoholic finish - a true sipping beer. 291005 omhper (11027), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 2, 2006 Bottled. Cloudy amber, brief head. Sweet and caramelly.
