Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of licorice, blueberries, melasses. Taste is light sour with heavy livorice, too much. Light body, low carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Cotteridge WInes. Why did no one tell me about this stuff? Oh, everyone did. Oh well.

Keg Old Coffee House London 20/03/13. A black beer with barely any head just a tiny beige speck. Oily coffee in the nose. Bitter coff in the mouth with oaky notes. Highly hopped. A good depth of flavours but it doesn’t taste as big as you’d think. Good enough for sure.

Bottle for £4 from the excellent Cobbetts in Dorking Surrey UK in late 2012, BBF date 4 April 2013, so max both ageing. Dark imperial style. Pours good dark opaque with a fluffy cream head that dies slowly. Lovely hoppy aroma with a waft of piney fragrant stouty smells, not too heavy in the mouth. Actually hard to describe. But very nice!

Bottle courtesy of Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham, after I crossed their palms with much silver! Poured a lovely deep black crude oil colour with a frothy tan head and lots of lace. The aroma is rich, malty and with a little fruit. The flavour is big bitter and bags of alcohol dominated liqourice. It’s rich, thick and with lots of dark chocolate too. I can’t say I liked the palate that much. The bitterness is derived from the alcohol and that seemed to take over the beer to the point where the palate and the aftertaste became a little unpleasant. Still, it’s far from the worst stout i’ve ever tasted, but i’ll hold off on ordering a crate of this stuff!

On tap at The Cock Tavern, Hackney, Saturday 1st March 2013 Impressive big, dark stout with coffee, chocolate and a nice little tanginess, I have to say whilst I described it as a little tangy I wouldn’t have had a clue about the cranberries until I saw this description. It’s a good beer, really quite decent, but I had better today and interestingly two of those better beers were from the Brodies stable. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5

(Draught at King William IV, Leyton, London, 22 Nov 2012) Black colour with foamy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with lots of coffee and notes of dark chocolate and cacao. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, liquorice, a touch of ashes and a hint of red fruit emerging in a finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite heavy and mouth-filling, but very nice.

Deep dark brown body with big tan thick head. Super rich aroma, thick milk chocolate, resin forest hops, sticky toffee and bay leave. Brilliant. Pretty thick and full of flavour as well. Great stuff. (33cl bottle from Chris, thanks!)
