How hoppy can we make an ale? Here’s your answer. Three and a half grams of west coast Chinook hops per PINT!

Intensely powerful ale, bursting with hops. Chewily full bodied and packed with flavours of vanilla, citrus and summer flowers. Bone dry with a lingering woodlike flavour on the tongue.

LIVE RATING: Cask at the Jolly Butchers, London on 13th February 2011. Hazy gold with thin white head giving full initial lacing. Pleasant grassy hop scents initially. Exquisite burst of grass, fine grapefruit and cigar to bonfire smoke in-mouth and a delicious aftertaste of grassy bitterness. This beer is fantastic! If you see it go for it!

Cask conditioned at The Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London. Pale gold with white head. Hoppy, bitter and dry, light in the body but stoked up with hops giving a pleasing grapefruit tanginess. My sort of beer.

Cask at Brodies BF. Clear gold pour with a bubbly head. Light citrus and pine, grass in the nose. Lightly sweet flavor with a great hop character of grass and slightly resinous pine, along with hints of grapefruit. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Good hop finish, very fresh tasting, well balanced. Great beer, one of the festival’s best.

Cask conditioned at Southampton Arms, London. Deep orange-copper colour without head. Shitsloads of piney Chinook hops in aroma. Rich rich hop flavour with soft bitterness. Light bodied with practically no Co2 at all. Great flavour but not complex. Cask IPA is better than you think.

Cask Conditioned handpump Old Fountain London. A blonde beer with a whitish head. Lots of citrus in the nose with oranges and lemons. Quite sharp and bitter in the mouth. Good body and good hops. Lots of fruit juice sharpness. Tasty.

Cask@the Bodega, Newcastle upon Tyne. Golden looks with a medium creamy white head. Promising nose packed full of fragrant hop and citrus, as was the gently sweet flavour which showed off the chinook to great effect. Very drinkable with decent body and a very tidy bitter finish. Well worth a look.

(Cask at Old Fountain, Old Street, London, 19 July 2011) Pale amber colour with foamy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of grapefruit, citrus peel and pine needles. Fruity, hoppy taste with grapefruit, orange peel, lychee and hints of pine needles. Generous citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry. Impressive hop presence. Very nice beer.

Plus exotique que la Citra, plus de longueur et plus puissante. Goûtée au fût.

I really like the variety that London’s new Brodie’s Brewery has to offer. I decided on the Californian IPA, where they boast, "How hoppy can we make an ale? Here’s your answer. Three and a half grams of west coast Chinook hops per PINT!" A - Pours a hazy golden orange with what looks like medium carbonation and a nice creamy but thin head. S - Orange zest, west coast hops, nice sweet malt balance ,and some grass T - Pine, orange peel (bitter orange), hops and the sweet malty backbone comes through in the nicely balanced sweet adn clean aftertaste. M &D - Smooth and very nice and creamy texture. Lovely carbonation with small but lively bubbles. Drinkable enough but plenty of other IPA’s I would rather drink more of. Very nice offering from a small young brewery which I will be checking out more of in the future.
