From cask @ ACBF 2012. Pours dark, no head, nose is all c hops, grapefruit, lemons, ... Not much in the aroma relating to a dark ale. But it’s all good...

Dark brown, ok head. Good hopped at both smell as taste, also the citrus fruits and decent amount of spiced. Not bad, a bit of a surprise even for me.

Cask conditioned handpump Old Fountain London. A near black beer with a white bubbly head. Very good hops in this with minimal roast from the dark malts. Nothing sweet about this at all. Tons and tons of citric fruits; mostly grapefruit. Really really lovely. A near perfect BIPA.

William IV: Brodies Birthday Bash Sept 2011. Hop aroma. Zinging hop taste. Not much room for the malt. Nettle sting on the tongue. Some sweet malt does come through. Not my thing.

Pours deep reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, grape, citrus and orange. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium to heavy bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at Cloisters. Pours red to black, a creamy head one centimetre. Nice citrus and black coffee on the nose. The palate is really remarkably smooth and soft, with dark coffee and dark chocolate flavours, along with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg hints with citrus fruit and nutty notes. Anything which can balance those coffee, chocolate and citrus flavours so well, with that mouth-feel, has to be well done.

Cask at Cloisters. Dark brown/black with really creamy head. Citrus hop nose, fresh and juicy. Creamy, luscious dark chocolate palate, fresh mango and coffee finish. Awesome.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On cask at Cloisters. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair white head. Very hoppy aroma of pine, pineapple and passion fruit with some coffee and roasty malt also. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is well balanced with lingering pine and roasty malt flavours.

Cask@King William IV, London. Dark ambery copper colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, mild toast, some earthyness as well. Flavour is much the same. Rather sweet as for the flavour.
