Dalston Black IPA. Cask at King Willliam IV, Leyton. A durian fruit aroma! Really. The flavour is medium bitter, with fruit, liqourice and spicy notes on the palate. A superb ale.

Bottle courtesy of ACD, cheers Alex! Pours jet black with resilient sticky, rocky oatmeal head, Pleasant pine and resin-soaked aroma punctuated with some fine estery vapors. Wow, bracingly hoppy throughout with a substantial and lingering bittereness. Heavy Columbus and Cascade profile. Very smooth with only a trace of roastiness. Finishes creamy and oily. Very enjoyable, glad I got to try it!

Bottle at Ales & Tails, Twickenham - 15/12/12. Light black with a mahoooosive frothy tan head. Nose is pine, hops, chocolate, a little mustyness. Taste comprises pine, hops, liqourice, touch of chocolate, light metallic and mineral notes, bitter grapefruit, puff of smoke. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter dry finish. Decent.

Keg, as Black IPA, half-pint, in a very relaxing atmosphere sitting by the open fire place at the excellent King William IV in Leyton. Deep black body topped by a decent, creamy tan-coloured head. Solid artwork to the glass. Semi-tart berries and aniseed fruits to the nose. Flavoured with citrus fruits mixed with malty hints of liquorice, grain and chocolate. Rather too much of bitter tartness towards the ending. Good without being outstanding (Greater London, 24.11.2012).

330ml bottle from cotteridge wines, birmingham
Dark brown-black with fantastic satsuma aroma. Chocolate orange, no astringency, little bitterness, full of hop flavour. This is up there with the best and keen to dry on draught.

33cl bottle. Pours black with thick and lasting tan/off-white head ’- light lacing. Aroma is wonderful - loads of tropical fruit character: passionfruit, mango, citrus, grape all there in abundance. Hardly any indication of roasted malt or any aromas you’d associate with dark beers. Taste also showcases juicy tropical fruits with a tasty zing of citric bitterness. Roasted malt comes through after the initial tropical buzz, with some notes of coffee and liquorice. Medium mouthfeel, perfect level of carbonation. Aftertaste is an interesting mix of roasted flavour and grapefruit bitterness. A top-notch, seriously drinkable BIPA.

Cask conditioned at The King William IV, Leyton, London. Black with tan head. What a way to finish off a long, long day. Full of fruity alcohol, bitter, hoppy with a citrus edge and roasty background. Quite a big and chunky beer, great.

Draft. Pours red/brown with minimal tan head. Aroma Like sticking your nose in a bag of hops!, citrus, roast malt and slight fruity. Taste is bread, sweeetness, roasted malts and hops. Delicious solid bitter finish,
