Clear dark red brown colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, grapefruit, orange - citrus, hoppy. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120320]

Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, moderate to heavy hoppy, grapefruit, citrus. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, chocolate, pine - grapefruit, chimney - soot notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111205]

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and crisp hoppy. Grapefruity hoppy. Citrusy and light sweaty. Crisp hoppy and grapefruity. Bitter and toasted dark malty.

From cask. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity and crisp hoppy. Bitter, dark roasted malty and solid bitterness. Ends dry, dark malty and lasting grapefruity hoppy.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a cloudy dark brown with an orange hue and a dense and creamy beige leaving some lacework. Heavy hops in the nose combined with some licorice. Medium body, licorice dominates, heavy roast and a very bitter finish. Neat alright. 200312

Cask@King William IV, London. Dark ambery copper colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, mild toast, some earthyness as well. Flavour is much the same. Rather sweet as for the flavour.

Cask at the brewpub. Near black. Grapefruit aroma. Mid sweet with medium-full body, rounded mouthfeel. Intense salty grapefruity hops, chocolatey malt. Long, remarkably bitter finish.

Bottle at yespr. Black coloured with a medium sized beige head. Roasted and hoppy aroma of grass with notes of citrus peel. Roasted and hoppy flavour of grass and grapefruits. Roasted and hoppy finish.

Cask at ACBF 2012. Dark brown coloured with a small beige head. Fruity and light roasted aroma of hops and pine needles with notes of grass. Fruity and hoppy flavour of grass and grape fruits. Dry hoppy finish.

Bottle @ yespr. Pours a black ruby color with a small tan head. Has a fruity malty hoppy piney licorice aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter licorice flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter piney licorice finish.

Cask at ACBF 2012. Clear dark red/brown - offwhite head. Light burned, ok hoppy, dryness, kalk, light medicine, pine needles, grassy, citrus, grape fruits. OK.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2012 Bottle at home 01/12... thanks to james ... deep brown ... small off white head ... big juicy pine hop and roast malt nose ... light bitter pine hop front ... juicy malts ... light body (what makes the difference between black IPA and Hoppy stout for me) light oilyness ... little mandarin ...little soapy ... but all round not bad

cask at King William 08/11 dark black ... thin tan head .. zezty ... big sweet woodty toffe malt ... big pine ... juicy ... light body ... little soapy ... great fruityness

bottle at home 05.12... deep black ... small head ... zezty dry woddy nose ...light bitter woody front ... soft pine ... light soapy ness ... dark woody malts .. still very good 3.7 but a little better fresher
