Tap at William IV. Pours a dark coca cola colour with a pale tan head. Aroma is pine, cannabis with an earthy funkiness. Medium body, medium carbonation. There's pine, toffee, grapefruit, coffee, pineapple, funky fusty stuff. Yep, nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very dark colour, taste is extremely hoppy with some tropical fruit, one of the best beers I’ve had

Cask at Cloisters. Dark brown/black with really creamy head. Citrus hop nose, fresh and juicy. Creamy, luscious dark chocolate palate, fresh mango and coffee finish. Awesome.

Keg in King William IV. Hmm in two minds about the keg, definitely served a good few degrees too cold. Dark brown appearance, hint of cola at the bottom. Huge upfront liquorice hit. Actually thought this was one of the more successful Black IPAs I’ve had in terms of blending the dark roast and the citric bitter hops. Improved immensely as it warmed up, will try to seek on cask as I’m sure it would get a higher score.

Tons of citrus on the nose with peach, lemon zest, fairy liquid and papaya. Pours a deep ruby with a firm, fluffy head. Flavour is true to what is fast becoming my new favourite style - an excellent balance of deep, roasted malts and zesty, spicy hops. Pasionfruit, charcoal and burnt orange peel. Finish is very dry and very bitter and very pleasant. Very nice.

Err, well, guess what, yep, this is good. Black IPA exactly as it should be. Maybe a tuppence, ut it’s a rich tuppence. total nonsense that you could understand completely. Perhaps even a pfennig if that’s how your bread is buttered.

Tap at The Grove, Huddersfield. 20.01.13. Hazy, very dark red. Tight, lasting, off white head. Roast malt, black cherry, light coffee. Taste is initial sweetness, then espresso dry and light bitter. Dry, bitter finish.
