3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Svesse (4389) - Hässelby, - SEP 1, 2011
(Cask at Old Coffee House, Soho, London, 20 July 2011) Black colour with brief, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with dark fruit, raisins and prunes. Malty, roasted taste with notes of raisins, prunes and dark bread. Decent chocolatey bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite sweet. Decent, but I expected more.

10th May 2011 On tap at the Old Fountain. Opaque dark brown beer, residual off white head. Light semi dry palate. Dark malt with a trace of coffee. Plenty of tangy depth with a whisper of red fruit. All comes together pretty well. Semi dry finish. Tasty little stout.

Cask (handpump) at the Old Fountain on 10 May 2011. Having missed this at the recent Brodies Bunny Basher festival, I was pleased to get another opportunity here. Very dark brown with a slight ruby tinge. Thin white head. Very roasty aroma with some powdery chocolate. Dry and a little dusty on the palate. More powdery cocoa. Firm but rather thin mouthfeel. Fairly bitter. Well done but, to be honest, this isn’t a stout genre that I generally enjoy too much. So I’m glad to be able to say that I did quite enjoy this one.

Cask handpull at William IV Leyton. Black beer with thin layer of beige bubbles. A fairly rich stout especially on the finish. Some roasted choc. Quite juicy. Not really my kinda beer to be honest. Rich and some rich choc torte like flavour. A bit like Tesco Finest Belgian Chocolate Torte.
